...to visit family in Ohio.
Unlike millions of other Americans, I've not had any situation yet where I needed to be masked for more than about an hour. This will be my first experience with 7-8 hours of it.
I'm bringing three masks, because even after an hour my mask can start to feel a bit sweaty, so I think I'm going to want to cycle through them.
COVID numbers aren't too bad where I live in NH. Ohio is another matter. Fortunately my family is smart masking and vaccination, so I shouldn't have to have too many close dealings with covid-iots.

(46,045 posts)I'm taking my first in December. From Oakland to Phoenix isn't as long a flight, thank God.

(15,090 posts)Ive flown this year and felt pretty safe because masking was enforced. Probably safer than going to my local grocery store where hardly anyone masks.
I do have a friend who caught a breakthrough infection on an Ethiopian Air flight that featured a bunch of maskholes from a Christian youth ministry.

(16,903 posts)It wasn't too bad... I think the airport itself is a place you need to be careful... in the restroom, etc... wash hands, etc.
Have a nice trip!

(100,070 posts)I'm planning to go to Phoenix in December to visit my aunt and go to a Cardinals game, and I've got two trips to Vegas planned early next year. Flying isn't bad as long as you put up with the idiots and exercise all precautions.

(13,583 posts)than a run through Costco. Maybe 50 minutes at the most. I plan to keep it that way. If I really need a mask, I shouldn't be there, unless it's an emergency or food. It's easy for me though, being single and retired.

(15,211 posts)My younger sister who I'll be seeing caught it pre-vaccine. She's a teacher and had a lot of students with terrible mask discipline. She's all recovered now. She didn't need to be hospitalized or anything too serious, but she definitely didn't just shrug off the experience either.

(31,997 posts)And he has to go back again next week. Both trips one week long.
Hes fully vaxxed, of course. Still I worry.
He told me last month when he got home from Texas that he saw more masked people there than he sees in Ohio (in Ohio its usually about 1/4 of any crowd in masks if youre lucky)

(33,341 posts)It is a DURING-Covid flight.
What you'll experience near the end is ear soreness from the mask straps. It sucks. Masks suck.
I have to wear them at work, and I'm so tired of it, and so angry at Antivaxxers, I could smash things.

(15,807 posts)I took a relatively short flight in August. It was only about an hour so it wasnt bad at all.
Like you, I hadnt worn a mask for long periods at all. I used kn95 masks. It wasnt horrible.

(11,465 posts)Before flight, said the mask wasn't a problem the tiny amount of space on seats was more of a problem. He had a stop over with change of planes, his first flight was a few hours in a tiny plane with small seats. He hated the flight. Said seat's didn't move recline at all.
Second flight better.

(30,613 posts)I often would end up with the asshole in front of me bruising my knees. One more reason I don't fly if I can avoid it.

(25,485 posts)Not been too bad...half empty flights...and maybe FA waking you up to tell you to fix your mask if it slipped off
