I thought they kept to the shadows? Or, maybe I'm thinking about the Brown Recluse.

It was an evening in July and we had an outdoor fire burning. I went to the wood shed for some wood and didn't realize I was bitten. The next day, my hand was itchy and by the evening, it was swelling up, my heart rate increased as did my blood pressure. A trip to the ER followed by 10 days of antibiotics and all was well. Since then, I always wear gloves around the yard.

don't get too bad. And they aren't aggressive.

But black widow bites are awful. The instant pain will bring you to your knees.
