Does Donald Trump still matter?

Last edited Thu Oct 21, 2021, 01:43 PM - Edit history (1)

Yeah, to a degree, but not as much as the media and the general populace seem to think.

He loses followers daily as they slowly start to see that he's an embarrassment/conman/idiot/loser.

And as for the totally hard-core MAGAs, Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, and so many other psychos, they'll stick with him as long as he's of use to helping them create the world they want to see. What world is that you ask? -- Google "Nazis".

Here's a prediction I'll stand by. The orange prick will never again occupy the White House. Some other Republican/Fascist might, but it won't be him.

He will spend the rest of his life fighting law suits, and hopefully, federal and state government agencies that will bring criminal charges against him. It's doubtful that he'll ever spend a day in jail, but he'll never have a day of peace until the day he dies.

If there is really a Republican organization to fear, it's The Federalist Society. They have spent decades trying to destroy American democracy and they're not about to go away. Their success has been awesome. Mussolini, Hitler and Attila the Hun would have envied their organization, their many successes, and they represent pure evil. (You're going to have to google this yourself for more facts.) But as long as they're around, our Constitution, our democracy and our freedoms are not safe. And never forget that Republicans know who they are, need them, stand behind them 100%, and live in fear of crossing them. (In short, Fox "news" ain't alone in their mission to destroy our country.)

1. In addition to the Federalist "society", I would add ALEC.

Trump is so important because he is driving the country toward fascism.
Rush and his talk radio clones was and are key propagandists.
Murdoch and Fox News are big players in spreading the message. The Sinclair network too.
The Koch brother(s) and their ilk have been funding viral movements of conservative/libertarian messaging.
Facebook and social networks have been instrumental in amplifying the work of the forementioned.

The Federalist Society is a different animal.
The Federalist Society wants America to return to the days of the early Constitution: very undemocratic times, but not necessarily fascist, just very divided times with minimal rights for those not landowning white males.

4. I haven't seen the numbers, but he appears to have the entirety of the GOP in his pocket.

Given that, I think there is still quite a bit of matter there. No other individual in the GOP appears to have the juice he does. Despite his personal hatred of the man, McConnell still publicly strokes Trump harder than a man at the ballwasher at a municipal golf course.

5. You can run a con just so long

Those guys that sold snake oil off the backs of wagons knew when to leave town.

Do you really believe that the orange beast can keep running his scams until election day in 2024? My estimate is that he's well down the path to losing his usefulness and the only one who doesn't know it is him.

He can't be tarred, feathered and run out of town. But maybe, just maybe, we can see him lose everything he has to law suits, and just possibly, confined to his hovel with an ankle monitor.

How long? I dunno. I'd guess past 2024 though.

But I don't see any signs that his grip has loosened over the GOP. No sign of that at all.

I just made that up, but I'm guessing it will become an accepted reality to all -- except for about a dozen or so MAGAs.

I just don't see any signs currently that his grip over his based has, or will in the next handful of years, weaken in any meaningful way.

If there are signs I've missed, I'm all ears for them! Would make me more than happy to think his reign of malicious idiocy is over and irrelevant.
