Luke Stewart, a 23-year-old Black man, was asleep in his parked car on March 13, 2017, when he was approached by police officers Matthew Rhodes and Louis Catalani. He was parked legally in Euclid, a suburb of Cleveland, and he wasn't posing a danger to anyone.
Catalani knocked on Lukes window, startling him awake. They did not announce themselves as officers. Luke sat up and started the car. Catalani and Rhodes immediately opened Luke's car doors and reached inside to forcibly remove him. Catalani grabbed Lukes arm, and he wrapped his arm around Lukes head and pulled, while Rhodes pushed from the passenger side.
Scared, Luke attempted to drive away, but Rhodes jumped into the passenger seat. Luke looked at Rhodes and asked, Why are you in my car?
Rhodes attacked Luke. He punched him, stunned him with a Taser six times, then used the Taser to strike him in the head. Luke never hit back. Moments later, Rhodes shot Luke five times, killing him. Rhodes had been in the car with Luke for only about one minute before he opened fire.

Yes, officers who are allowed to act with impunity are very dangerous for society in general.
I feel so sorry that this totally innocent young man lost his life for nothing. These officers should be inprisoned. And held financially responsible to his family.

(14,853 posts)I wasn't shot, but a local cop put his hand on his gun over a ridiculous situation of his own creation!
I was seated next to my back door, quietly smoking a cigarette after returning home from work around midnight.
A cop pulled into an adjacent apartment parking lot, slowly patrolling it, then yelled "Hey, you! Come here!" I didn't think he could even see me, but I didn't see anyone else outside either. So I eventually asked, "Me?" and he answered, "Yeah, you!"
So I walked toward his cruiser (probably dumb of me), and he yelled for me to put out the cigarette. Which I did, then I kept holding the extinguished butt so he wouldn't complain about littering.
Then he demanded to know my identity and where I lived. (Hellooo? I was sitting inches away from my back door.)
So I told him my identity and address, but he wanted a photo ID too. That's when I said it was in the glove box of my car, but I could get it for him.
Then he got out of his cruiser and followed me to my car. WHY?! When I unlocked the car door and reached toward the glove box, I reminded him again that's where my driver's license was located. So please don't do anything drastic when I reach inside it! (And that's when he had his hand on his gun, preparing to blast me.)
Gave him the license, and he walked back to his cruiser to check for records on me. Found nothing and returned my license.
THEN he finally told me what it was about. He said there was vandalism to a car about a mile away, and he was searching for the culprit! WTF?!
He told me to go inside and lock my doors because the vandals were surely still in the area! (So I indeed walked inside, waiting until he drove away before I immediately smoked in my outside chair again.)
Yes, the cops around here obviously DON'T HAVE ENOUGH TO DO!
