(146,325 posts)Anything of that nature comes from a scammer, not the bank. The bank never uses texts or links in email when communicating with its customers. No bank does.
Scammers, on the other hand, do that all the time.

(8,387 posts)They don't care what your user name and password are. You shouldn't click on fraudulent links, since the entire point is to get you to do that much so that your device can be subject to a drive-by download of something that is either going to be harmful to your device or enlist your device in a botnet.
and you have a point but I think their primary goal would be to get banking info. :/

(1,577 posts)My identity was stolen in September. An account was opened at Truist Bank (BB&T). $330 was withdrawn from the account and the account was closed. Then, the "perp" deposited the money in the Lending Bank. Sensing an issue, Lending Bank sent the money back and closed that account. I have now been hit with scams from several banks online and have notified the credit agencies of the issues. It's pathetic that someone can create havoc, get money where there is no money, and walk away.

(19,485 posts)Not just with Wells Fargo, but with many companies. I assume the purpose is to get you to enter your login information, which is captured and can then be used to steal your funds, in the case of a bank, or order goods using your stored credit card, in the case of online stores.
