http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/10/21/a-football-draw-for-romneys-staff-and-the-press/?hpMr. Romney, wearing black shorts, a black Adidas T-shirt and gray sneakers, walked down to the beach after spending the morning at church, and kicked off the game with a coin toss. (The press won that part, with a call of tails, prompting Mr. Romney to quip, Thats the last call you guys are getting.)
Lets see, look at the captain, Gails a captain, is that right? Mr. Romney said, referring to Gail Gitcho, the campaigns communications director. Got a bracelet for you.
Mr. Romney then handed Ms. Gitcho a white rubber bracelet that read, Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, America Cant Lose, an apparent twist on the Friday Night Lights motto, which Mr. Romney has recently begun quoting on the campaign trial.

(13,305 posts)but the media were fairly scathing and adverserial when Romney was losing and sizably behind in the polls. They reported on every gaffe and plenty of them were quite mocking of him.
And yes, now that he's tied or according to some leading, they are back to being his buddy and giving him favorable coverage.
That's largely the way it works. The idiotic, sycophantic media we have loves 2 things: 1) Controversey, either real or imagined, and 2) a winner. And they hate boring and they hate a loser. Which is why when Willard was both they were plenty happy to mock him.
And for the record the story in this article is nauseating. But they wouldn't be doing this in the first place if he were losing. But because he's pulled even or ahead they feel comfortable enough associating with him in this way.

(45,851 posts)It would disgust me just as much or maybe even more if Obama and his campaign were to do this with the media.

(13,305 posts)Whether he actually has or not, if there are enough polls out there showing that (which there are, whether we want to believe them or not), then it gives them cover.
Look I'm not saying this is good or justifiable. They (the press) are a bunch of idiots, and what I'm saying makes them more so. But we can't in all honestly claim that their behavior has been consistently pro-Romney and pro-Republican as much as it has been and will continue to be pro-whoever seems to be in the lead (real or imagined).

(47,144 posts)I think what is going on is most in the media can't believe that so many are seriously considering putting Mitt in the Whitehouse, but they don't want to call Americans stupid.
I think that sums it up.

(45,851 posts)It would be headline news on every single media outlet.
The M$M didn't start reporting on Mitt's negative points until they were forced to by his Gish Gallop at the RNC.
