Remember when you would read The Onion and The Borowitz Report and immediately know they were satire, and not actual news stories?
Remember when your Christian neighbours preached to you about Jesus, instead of preaching to you about Donald Trump?

I have lived in Canada for decades. I came here in 1974, when my then-husband was given a career-advancing opportunity that he couldn't refuse. For years I wanted nothing more than to "go home" to my beloved country. I have since realized that my beloved country no longer exists - it is just a memory of what was, and seemingly is no more.
But I still "remember when" the truth was obvious, when good citizens knew what was right and were willing to say so, when people who believe in a 'more perfect union' were willing to stand up for that belief - and they are, despite all odds, still doing so.
I still believe that "remember when" isn't just a rallying cry for Democrats, but is a clarion call for those who remember that a nation united worked - and a nation divided doesn't.

Now in Germany for 6 years. What a relief. Will I move back to the US? At this point I would say that it is unlikely. 2022 and 2024 may put the nail in that coffin.
Just visiting my town in CA, and driving around makes it plain that we have made a good choice.
