The massage from Dems should be that the R's, Ran away from Trump to win. That means trump is not popular and the Republicans are going to lose with Trump like candidates.

Trump was a non issue, Younkin didn't campaign with him.
Glenn Youngkin triumphed by winning over a large number of voters who dont support the former president.

(31,906 posts)It is a fair question.
A lot of people turned away from the GOP after 1/6.
If you are in South Jersey - that's Trump Country. The losing GOP Gubernatorial Candidate was at the Trump rally down there.

(5,559 posts)If he's not on the ballot, we shouldn't try to make him an issue. Looking backwards and campaigning about a failed and voted out moron who isn't even on the ballot is a losing strategy. Literally so, we just lost on it yesterday.
In It to Win It
(8,285 posts)Admittedly, my memories is stretchy on what the issues were but I think they were:
Raising teacher pay
Womens reproductive rights
Affordable healthcare
That was the message to drill into on the campaign. If that was the consistent message throughout the campaign, hed probably be celebrating his win right now. Message that fact that Northam expanded healthcare in the state and GOP would roll that back. Talk about the goal of getting kids fully back in school so parents can go back to work and provide for their families. Fuck Trump. Hes old news. Hes not the Democrats boogeyman anymore. The boogeyman is the GOP rolling back healthcare, and womens rights. The boogeyman is the GOP taking dollars away from schools and not raising teachers salaries.
In my mind, this doesnt seem that hard.
