He claimed Vice President Harris only got her job because she was a woman and a person of color
He supported the treason January 6th attacks on our nation's capital
When Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building last January, Durr said it was "not an insurrection," but rather "an unauthorized entry by undocumented federal employers."
More proof of the evil nature of today's Republicans

This year, Republican turnout in the 3rd District was enormous, Murray said. We are still seeing seething over what they see as a stolen election, he said referring to the 2020 presidential election, adding that GOP voters view the Democratic Party as having gone too far in pursuing a progressive agenda.
Another element - even though South Jersey HATES Phil Murphy - I mean they hate this man as a recent long dormant account posted (she hates him too) - he's well loved by Central New Jersey. We love the guy. He's the guy that protected us from racist inbreds in South Jersey and Donald Trump.
Sweeney fucked with him - and I would bet truly loyal Democrats 'under voted' on that ballot as result. You have to go back to the 2017 Primary and read forward.
Regardless - we own Trenton - and I suspect there will be a little bit of retaliation against that district. The guy will be loved by the GOP - but if you don't think I've already called my friend, former assemblyman - and new 16th District Senator to say -
He represents takers - not earners in state? You aren't paying attention.
They are down there worrying about gas.
We are up here worrying about the SALT Cap and wondering why they got so much of the money for education - and the 6th wealthiest county got so little.
Let that sink in. I would rather my money go to Newark or Elizabeth where people train and bus it for an hour and a half each way to get to work . . . instead of whining about Covid shutdowns. We are all 'Essential' up here.

My new neighbor moved back East when Microsoft allowed her to work from home. Cost of living better than the bay area in Hunterdon County.

One exception - Cape May. Really cool place.

(92,190 posts)numbers. They are not a majority, but they get to set the agenda by giving smaller population states much more weighting in the Senate, which determines the make up of the judicial, along with gerrymandering and the electoral college, which adds further power to smaller states, by allowing someone who gets less popular vote, to still become President.
It will never happen in my lifetime - but I would be aok with the Electoral College going away.

(1,236 posts)The entire GOP is a monstrous, smoldering cesspool of hate. Those in the GOP who do not actively participate are just as bad as they support those who do.
Keith Olbermann was pretty much on target with his Jonestown analogy. They would happily die while tearing down the whole fucking world, just to be able to know that, in the end, they 'Owned the Libs'.

(35,669 posts)he's low man on the totem pole, right?
And this from the Slate article puts it into perspective:
Its a little hard to draw any specific ideological lesson here because in New Jersey Sweeney was generally considered an obstacle to Democratic Gov. Phil Murphys agenda rather than a supporter of it. (The state teachers union hates this guy so much that they actually spent $5 million supporting his Republican opponent in 2017.) Meanwhile, your New Jerseybased correspondent is hearing secondhand that Sweeney is calling members of his caucus and blaming progressives for his loss, as one does. In any case, he counted his chickens before they hatched, and Edward Durr drove over them with a semitruck.
https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2021/11/new-jersey-senate-president-losing-to-truck-driver.html
Not my teachers union but the one for the public school teachers did indeed spend that money.
RAB910

(35,669 posts)has nobody to call to get his republican bullshit through the Democratic assembly and senate. Hahahha.
Chris Christie would get his republican crap through Sweeney. What a tool Sweeney was for the republicans.
This newly elected guy may be a jerk but he's also a powerless schmuck. I predict many good laughs out of his tenure and also that of the Staten Island guy with two families who just won. Vito Fasselli, something like that.

(3,501 posts)I don't feel sorry for him. Plus if he had just had one of his campaign staff check the social media accounts of the Nazi prick he was running against, he would still be in the Senate.

(3,501 posts)I am realistic. First of all the vast majority of NJ resident who have heard of Durr only know the lie about how "defeated Sweeney with $196"
Few know what an ugly treasonous monster he is.
Without that knowledge there will be no political pressure
So the GOP will welcome another Nazi in their ranks with open arms and the Dems (smarting from the election) will likely let this pass because so few people know what this guy is
NJCher
(35,669 posts)I can't agree with you. Let's see how it plays out and if you're right, I'll admit it. Give it six months after he's been in office.
But from lobbying work on behalf of my teachers' union, I know many of these legislators and have for many years. That is why I am taking the position I expressed in my previous post.
And even if I didn't know any of them, my knowledge of interpersonal communication and group dynamics, which I have taught in NJ institutions of higher education for 30 years, tells me that Durr is not going to be maneuvering himself into a position of power.
It's not a matter of political pressure, and even if it was, there isn't enough of a trumper base in the assembly or Senate with which he can align.
