Virginia Gov.-elect Youngkin's underaged son tried to vote in Tuesday's election, elections official

https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/virginia-politics/glenn-youngkin-son-vote-election/2021/11/05/f5eb7ce0-3e62-11ec-8ee9-4f14a26749d1_story.html

The 17-year-old son of Virginia Gov.-elect Glenn Youngkin (R) tried to cast a ballot in Tuesday’s gubernatorial election twice despite being too young to vote, Fairfax County officials said in a statement released Friday.

The statement, which identified the teen as Youngkin’s 17-year-old son, emphasized that he did not end up voting and stated that he did not violate any state election laws. The Post is not including the teen’s first name because he is a juvenile and has not been charged with a crime.

The teen walked into the voting precinct inside the Great Falls Library on Tuesday afternoon, presenting his driver’s license to election officials when asked for a proof of identity, according to Jennifer Chanty, the precinct captain there.

Chanty said in an interview with The Post she realized who the teen was when she looked at his ID. Upon seeing his age, she said she informed him that he must be at least 18 to be eligible to vote in Virginia.

How ironic, the minor son of a REPUBLICAN tries to commit voter fraud. Yes yes, he is a kid so I am not scolding the kid but come on "Dad", you didn't educate your kids about how VOTER FRAUD works or how to vote ????

I've been a poll worker in several elections. Occasionally, you'll have someone try to vote who isn't registered. Their name doesn't appear on your tablet when you scan their drivers license, you look at their license and say "Hey, looks like you're 17. I'm sorry, you have to be 18 to vote."

Dumb, and in need of a civics lesson, but nothing illegal or ill-intentioned.

for anybody else (it doesn't). I know that they're not going to throw the book at him over this and it will be treated largely as a non-issue but some people are disproportionately punished for all kinds of things, including attempted voter fraud.

I've personally dealt with the scenario I laid out, usually multiple times each election.

17-year old trying to vote TWICE? Once can be an accident, sure but twice sure makes it seem like he was trying to cast a vote, presumably for dear old Dad who was running for Governor in this election. And being the son of a politician, he didn’t know better?!

You didn't go public with it.

If no law was broken, then they're trying to embarrass the teen and the family and I'll say that's not cool, regardless of that family's political views. I've done dumber things in my life then try to vote as a minor.

Indict and lock this asshole up. Make his daddy pardon him

The 17-year-old son of Virginia Gov.-elect Glenn Youngkin attempted to cast a ballot twice on Election Day despite being too young to vote, local elections officials said on Friday.

Youngkin’s son, who is not being named because he is a minor, tried unsuccessfully to vote at a polling place in Great Falls, Va., which was not the assigned voting location for his home address, officials told News4, an NBC News television affiliate in Washington, D.C.

Election workers turned the teen away after they determined he was ineligible to vote, Fairfax County election officials said. He returned 30 minutes later and requested another ballot before being turned away again, News4 reported.

The Fairfax County Office of Elections told News4 it was investigating the incident but noted that it's unclear whether any laws were broken since the teen presented proper identification and did not end up casting a vote.
