After 3 weeks in and out of hospitals, 125 miles in an ambulance, and a terrifying week on a ventilator, Gus is home, smiling, and doing great! We’re so relieved, thankful, and excited for him and Penelope to take DC by storm! Thank you so much for all of the love and prayers.

12. I hope the poor kid doesn't have to go through life with that name.....

...even if it's just a nickname. My father called me "Gus" until I was in college, and I DESPISED it! For a long time, he threw another tab on it, and called me "Goony Gus." He has been dead for nearly five years, and it's the only thing I"ve never forgiven him for. I know he didn't do it to be REALLY mean, but it hurt anyway.

15. One of our best friends is named Gus.

It’s not his real name and I don’t know where he got it, but it’s how he introduced himself to us. His wife is the only person I know who uses his real name. Then again, I’m the only person who calls my husband by his real name. Must be a thing.

I wouldn’t like to be called “Goony Gus,” though. That just sounds mean.

16. My husband's dad gave him a nickname when he was growing up--

it was "Shit For Brains". That stung him for a long time, thirty years of marriage and he still brings it up as a memory. I'll bet your dad just liked the sound of Goony Gus, or just wanted to rib you a little, without really meaning it as an insult.
