Of these 2 outcomes (ONLY), which would you prefer and why?

i. Romney narrowly edges Obama in the popular vote but Obama wins the electoral college handily

ii. Obama wins the popular vote in a landslide and the electoral college handily

My rationale for ignoring all other outcomes.
I think that if i. (Romney narrowly edges Obama in the popular vote but Obama wins the electoral college handily) occurs, the Republicans would want to blow up the electoral college. On the other hand, if ii. (Obama wins the popular vote in a landslide and the electoral college handily)...of course we want a landslide, and the cherry on top could mean the end of pollsters as all the polls say the race is close one way or the other.

Of course I'd love to see Obama win in a landslide but my disdain for the electoral college is greater. I choose i.

Because i wouldn't make any difference. It wouldn't matter whether Republicans fell in behind abolishing the Electoral College or not, as 3/4 of the states would never agree to an amendment.

is probably going nowhere. However all the rw election and voting watchdog groups that are springing up will probably launch some kind of campaign to steal the election in 2016.

3. 2, no question.

Demonstrating the flaws in the electoral college isn't worth the hit to the president's perceived legitimacy. There are plenty of people who still don't accept that Bush was "really" elected in 2000 - hell, I'm one of them.

I want an unambiguous and decisive win for Obama, so that Romney is forced to admit in his concession speech what McCain was forced to in 2008: "The American people have spoken, and they have spoken clearly."

god I hate the electoral college. I could live with a modified electoral vote count, but that's a whole other thread.
