(1,896 posts)Grenell was a U.S. State Department spokesperson to the United Nations during the George W. Bush administration. Following his State Department tenure, he formed Capitol Media Partners, a political consultancy; he also was a Fox News contributor. Grenell was a foreign policy spokesperson for Mitt Romney during his 2012 presidential campaign.[2]
In September 2017, President Donald Trump nominated Grenell as the U.S. Ambassador to Germany.

(1,896 posts)It should go something like this: He sent his envoy, blacksmith Jones to see if the horses were healthy. It didn't take long to realize he should have asked the horse instead because blacksmith Jones was an ass. Someone said the same thing about Grenell.

(32,095 posts)There is no legal expert which gives it any credibility. It is a law, over 200 years old, which no one has been brought to trial for violating. Why people keep bringing it up I don't know.

(12,422 posts)During the nineteenth century, the act lay dormant, partly because American foreign policy receded in importance as an issue.[6] During the twentieth century, however, with the Supreme Court paying greater attention to cases involving the First and Fifth amendments to the Constitution, and with the possibility of American foreign policy being more influenced by private individuals becoming more of a prominent issue in politics, there have been more cases potentially involving the Logan Act.[6] Still, the Logan Act has been rarely enforced, possibly because prosecutors have been concerned that speech between a private citizen and a foreign government may still qualify as free speech and be protected in that regard.
