Heres Why Folks Were So Desperate to Smear Kamala Harris
https://allyfromnola.medium.com/heres-why-folks-were-so-desperate-to-smear-kamala-harris-cbd708d02d59
A story published in CNN implied Harris created problems for herself, but from afar, it looks like their sources are the ones trying to make a mountain out of a molehill.
Whenever you evaluate a politician, always consider what your values are, what their objectives are, what their commitments are, and what they do with the power given.
Remember, a politician may not have the same values as you, but if they maintain their commitments in light of their objectives, they have not violated their social contract.
None of Vice President Kamalas critics mentioned a campaign promise that she broke or a goal she failed to meet, so why are they dragging her? Some Twitter users had stern words after reading the article about Kamala. One user said in a video, Stop tearing down Black women.
SNIP..
For starters, they want to diminish her current efforts as Vice President and secondly, they want to kneecap her career going forward. Remember, its America, and there will always be some people who come up with excuses to diminish Black women, particularly those in positions of power, and even when they are fulfilling their roles with poise and grace.

(1,000 posts)the party of "family values" berating Hillary for "standing by her man," Diaper David Vitter's wife in particular. Now she has a judgeship from tRump for "standing by her man." In the post fact/tRump era, it doesn't have to be true, it just has to be out there. Amazing what they will believe with much investigation, no evidence, no prosecution, subpoenaed testimony answered; and what they won't believe when it happens right in front of them.
But Kamala is the threefer-strong woman, Black/Indian heritage, highly competent and strong. Their worst nightmare. But again, you can't tell me the corporate media isn't in on the fix when Chris Christie is on his rehabilitation tour, and only Nicole Wallace seems to notice.

(44,499 posts)women Dem Senators came out (far from just Gillibrand) and called for Franken to resign
so I would say not
Gillibrand's tweet was the first, by just a few minutes, and a group of mostly female Senators had been planning and meeting for weeks before it all went down on December 6.
All Democratic Senators except 5 called in public or private for him to resign. Gillibrand is only a Jr. Senator from NY. She doesn't have the superpowers being attributed to her. Schumer was well involved, signed off on it, and gave the ultimatum.
Only Joe Manchin said he should not resign. 3 of the other 4 were on the Senate Ethics committee and could not comment, and the 4th, Bob Menendez of New Jersey, was under federal criminal indictment for corruption at the time and chose to say nothing.
Female Democratic senators coordinated a wave of calls for resignation
https://edition.cnn.com/2017/12/06/politics/senators-al-franken-resignation/index.html
Starting around 11:30 a.m. ET, the senators posted statements in a coordinated effort, one after the other, on social media, saying the Minnesota Democrat should step down. Some comments were elaborate, lengthy and loaded with a moral message. Others, like that of Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri, were straight to the point. "Al Franken should resign," she simply tweeted.
Within the next 90 minutes, 16 Democrats -- 10 of them women -- and one Republican senator -- Susan Collins of Maine -- had publicly urged their colleague to vacate his seat.
then, of course, there was this
Harris: 'I believe' Biden accusers
https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/437107-harris-i-believe-biden-accusers
"I believe them and I respect them being able to tell their story and having the courage to do it," Harris said at a presidential campaign event in Nevada.
The California senator added that Biden will need to decide for himself whether to run for president. "He's going to have to make that decision for himself. I wouldnt tell him what to do," Harris said.
In recent days, several women have come forward to allege that Biden has touched them inappropriately.
so, Gillibrand with Franken is perhaps not the best analogy

We will likely never know for sure, the pressure really ramped up when 7 more women come forward, including multiple Dems, and he stepped down before there was an official investigation.
What elected Democrats are attacking Harris?

peppertree
(22,078 posts)I mean, you may be right: Biden might opt out of running.
But to have an incumbent president decline to run for his own re-election, puts his party at a disadvantage that very moment.
Many voters will assume he doesn't run, because he's either too ill or can't possibly win - as was LBJ's case (on both accounts) in '68.
The opposition, in turn, will smell blood - and how.
Biden can't take than chance, and I he knows it.

Most Republicans I've known, frankly, look unhealthy. They look like people with a drinking problem, more often than not.
(nothing against alcohol - but it does do a number on your health)
So they think than anyone who's 78 couldn't possibly be healthy and all there.
Plus, of course, wishful thinking: they wish Biden was tottering or worse.

They got clobbered with Clyburn's Southern Black Voters, in 2020.
The move by that political group to bury her name like they did with HRC, is a predictable pattern.
They cannot move their new Party forward nor 'destroy the Dem Party', with the Black vote solidly aligned with the Democratic Party
Period.
That, and their founders are racist, antisemetic & anti Democracy.
They align more with the RW, which shows in who they gather with to grind down their message of despicable hate.

(17,575 posts)in a Democratic primary. I think it is worth pointing out that folks can defend Harris from bad faith attacks, while not supporting her in a future primary.
That always seems to be the undercurrent of these discussions, posturing for 24 or 28.

(12,879 posts)Too many people, here especially, are willing to wave aside any disapproval issues as being "racist" or "misogynist". As we stand today, VP Harris has a bad approval rating even among Democrats. It shouldnt be such a surprise seeing as she didnt get much traction in the primaries. She's currently at a 51% disapproval rating, according to the LA Times. It is what it is & Pres Biden needs to get her involved in more major projects to get her out there more. '24 is still a long way off, but its also never too early to start preparing. Personally, I wanted Biden to pick Amy Klobuchar, but NOT picking her didnt alter my vote. I dont think Biden will run in '24, so that makes getting Harris out front more often even MORE important.
Now time to release the hounds on me.......

Kamala presents to challenges for republicans, she is a woman and a black woman with Hindu descendance, a double threat for the white folks. She, like Hillary, has other attributes republicans do not like from a woman, she is extremely smart, and capable.

(33,426 posts)Limbaugh basically torpedoed Hillary's career, once she finally got her chance to run for the White House. If he had known about Kamala Harris, I doubt he would have wasted any time on Hillary. He would have launched a balls-out campaign of hatred against Kamala like we've never seen in this country. Thank goodness he's dead and gone-to-hell where he belongs. Unfortunately Limbaugh has enabled enough woman-hating racists in this country now that are all willing to step up and take his place.

Their pov is not rethug or Dem - it is Libertarian. Always has been. Ted Turner, it's founder, despite Jane's progressive influence, always was a Randian guy. He sold it to Corporate Interests with the same viewpoint.
It is confusing, as Libertarian is NOT Republican, but it is anathema to the Democratic Party planks.

(7,785 posts)Republican pundits and politicians now need to constantly renew and demonstrate their racist cred with the aptly-named "base."
The media needs to promulgate the smears to confirm their devotion to a both-sidesism in which they see little difference between the party of obstruction, unlimited tolerance of corruption and treason, and fealty to a sociopath with the party that attempts to represent the people and improves their lives.

1870 African American men got the vote. They were prevented from voting but they did have the right. 50 years later women got the vote. (1920) Think about that and understand that our women still suffer from men who want to control them. On the job and in the public square.

(13,887 posts)Obama was about as moderate for a democrat as they could have hope for. They pulled out all the stops to block everything because a black man couldn't be allowed to look like an effective President. It was also that the republicans could not be seen taking direction from a black man.

(407 posts)"if [politicians] maintain their commitments in light of their objectives, they have not violated their social contract."
TFG definitely had objectives. TFG definitely was committed to those objectives.
TFG's objectives, however, were the objectives of a Con-Man and Grifter.
Conversely, TFG swore to uphold/defend the Constitution.
He violated and opposed the Constitution.
He violated his Social Contract.
