That Mf'er Dejoy

If you haven't been to the post office for the Christmas season you are in for a shock. Dejoy has inflated the prices for shipping. Prioirty and flat rate is almost the same. There is a 25% surcharge and it started on Oct.3rd. He is trying to force everyone to UPS and Fedex.

People that sell on Etsy are getting killed. Shipping costs more than the price of the item they are mailing.

Everybody is trying to find alternative shipping ideas because the cost of shipping makes their products too expensive. Wreaths are light but they need big boxes.

I am using snail mail but if it slows delivery many will switch to online invoices and payments thus reducing further their revenue.

The USPS needs a major review about some unrealistic financial obligations that I am not even sure about the details.

7. So USPS is increasing its rates during peak season? Seems wise to me. Also, it's not 25%.

It's significantly less than 25% on most items.

"The U.S. Postal Service says it will add surcharges to packages shipped between Oct. 3 and Dec. 26 to help offset higher shipping costs. That means you can expect to pay anywhere from an extra 25¢ to $5, depending on the size of the package and the distance it needs to travel.

"The extra charges will apply to both individuals and corporations. The USPS rolled out the surcharges last year for commercial customers. “This seasonal adjustment will bring prices for the Postal Service’s commercial and retail customers in line with competitive practices. No structural changes are planned as part of this limited pricing initiative,” the Postal Service said in a statement.

"Last year’s surcharges helped the USPS achieve a slight level of profitability. They didn’t make things move faster, though. The division was overwhelmed with packages, and many consumers reported substantial delays. The Postal Service saw a record-breaking 25% increase in holiday shipping and package volume last year, with revenue up by $2.1 billion over the same quarter in 2019. About 1.1 billion packages were delivered throughout the holiday season. UPS and FedEx also started putting surcharges on shipments during the holiday season in 2020."

Disregarding any surcharge, this is how USPS rates compare to other countries:

9. I was there today

I was sending a package from Atlanta to Houston. It was not large at all. Regular 5 day before Oct. 3 was 8.40 and after Oct. 3 it was 11.70. priority was 11.85. There is no way that 5 day should only be .15 less than priority. If you want to believe their statement vs someone who was their this morning go ahead. Also Oct 3 is pretty early for Christmas.

10. I won't use Fed ex again.

I sent something to a relative in Alabama and it never reached its destination. You would think there is an easy process to follow, but they vouched for their delivery guy and my relative wouldn't turn in a complaint. So disappointed. I haven't seen him in years, but the level of resignation that he will accept is heart-breaking. It's almost fatalist. And living in Alabama probably has made it worse.

But, just for the record, we were going to use UPS, but the customer service was closed for the afternoon! We couldn't figure that one out.

Fed Ex and UPS is not the answer!

11. No FedEx ground for me!

I regularly mail packages home while on long road trips. So I can make room for the things I might bring home. I mailed a box of items FedEx ground cross country, and it took over 2 weeks for it to arrive.
That is why I scout out USPS locations when I travel. Sometimes I stash a Priority Mail package and/or tape in my suitcase so I can mail from anywhere.

It is way past time for DeJoy to GTFO.
