AUSTIN A North Texas man facing federal charges for allegedly assaulting police officers during the Jan. 6 insurrection and siege at the U.S. Capitol is now running for a Texas House seat.
Mark Middleton, who was indicted in May by a federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., is challenging incumbent GOP Rep. David Spiller of Jacksboro in House District 68. Following this years redistricting, the district stretches from the Oklahoma border south to Lampasas and San Saba counties at the edge of the Texas Hill Country.
According to the Texas secretary of state website, the state Republican Party has accepted Middletons application to be a candidate in the March 1 primary.
Middleton and his wife Jalise, of Forestburg, were captured on video and in photographs participating in the riot, the FBI says in a federal criminal complaint. They were arrested and released in April from the Collin County jail, according to jail records.

(18,628 posts)He proved that on January 6th, but do we want a Representative who grabs the nearest flagpole when someone disagrees with him?
Wait... It's Texas. He's a shoe-in.

"David, I thought we agreed we wouldn't bring that up."
"No Mark, we agreed we wouldn't bring up your weekly Roman orgies. I think the people of this district have the perfect right to know if they vote for you they're going to have no state representative during the next session because you'll be in federal prison for 45 months."
"Hey! I thought you said you weren't going to bring up the orgies."
"I also wasn't going to bring up your stealing mineral rights from grandmothers, that you still have a cesspool even though it would only cost you $250 to get on city sewer, that your son has been arrested for soliciting prostitution twelve times because he's so obnoxious he can't get laid even if he does pin a $20 bill to his field jacket, that your poor daughter has been divorced eleven times because the guys she meets and marries head for the hills two minutes after they meet you and your wife...and I wasn't going to bring up those things because they're not really relevant here, are they? Those are all personal issues, but that you're going to prison affects all of us.
