"The perception that MSNBC is the voice of liberal common sense is a manufactured and managed perception, created by people like Vanguard and Blackrock to get more money."

(10,429 posts)MSNBC was owned by GE, a war profiteer. Which still has a significant ownership.
They provide a corporate-approved "liberal" viewpoint. Hosts have about 39 minutes of actual airtime per hour, and for their 7-8 figure salaries, are quite happy to stick to approved "liberal" topics. Can't say that I blame them, I'd probably do the same for a few years then retire comfortably.
It's why corporate media cannot be trusted.

(49,001 posts)... by writing a screed that claims people cannot and will not improve over time through the ages, and buttresses it by quoting liberals, some of them out of context, as if to say "look! This guy is progressive and said a bad thing! That means progressives are bad!"
(He is right about Sanger and the eugenics movement.)
First of all, I am not a liberal. I oppose liberalism. I think it is as insipid as it is dishonest. And this is what progressive has come to mean in popular speech, liberal since the latter term has been effectively demonized, with liberals handing conservatives the stick to beat them with.

(130,891 posts)we know the difference between b.s., fact, and analysis, and msnbc doesn't scare me. (I 'boycotted' in the days when Rachel spoke so often about trmp.)
PBS is my #1 go-to for news.

(1,364 posts)They are majority shareholders in all (most) the Media. Blackrock and Vanguard are the major shareholder of AT&T, AT&T owns OAN. What is their end game....to create division so they can have a monopoly and control who is president and our democracy? We need to break them up...somehow?

(7,611 posts)Investors. If you open an IRA or 401k account you are an owner of Vanguard. It maintains one of the lowest fee structures in the industry to benefit it's owner-investors. Its founder, the late John Bogle, was often referred to as 'Saint Jack' because he had created a concept that immensely benefitted so many people.

(1,364 posts)that is investor owned. So, you are saying all IRA's and 401k accounts invest in Vanguard... this is disinformation.
"Saint Jack" benefitted so many people that we pay $12,000 for medical per year, that we pay $1,200 for pills that cost $35 to make. Vanguard and Blackrock own the media, including OAN, CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, etc. By the way Vanguard owns Blackrock.
Sorry this guy is the devil, Saint Jack sound very wingnutty...don't you think?
What concept immensely benefitted so many people??

(7,611 posts)Vanguard owns a lot of stocks because so many people are smart enough to invest with them.
If you ever decide to save for retirement check them out.
Oh, and Larry Fink is a staunch democrat. He would have been Hillary's Secretary of the Treasury.

(90,667 posts)Regardless, I pick and choose my sources and commentators, and have found several on MSNBC who are honest and reliable. Add to that the Los Angeles Times, and some people here, and Ive got it covered.
You know what I do with things on TV that are obnoxious? Change channels. Its remarkably easy.

(38,311 posts)The moving images and sounds largely bypass our critical thinking skills, and most of us are too lazy to analyze what we've seen and heard afterwards. Television news is all about emotional impressions. That's why it works so well as propaganda.
Written news can be analyzed as it's read. It doesn't flow by any faster than one's critical mind can process it.
I quit television news and opinion shortly after September 11, 2001. That television news coverage was a shit show.
My wife has never been a regular viewer of television news. We read all our news and have paid subscriptions to several digital news sources.
We don't have cable, satellite, or broadcast television and only see television commercials when we are visiting family who still watch traditional television.
Most of the younger people in our extended family don't pay any attention to traditional television or radio. They stream everything.

Critical Thinking Skills. They're worth acquiring. That is all.
