*PSA* At home package delivery theft issue.

Just heard on our community FB page about a new disturbing issue with at home deliveries. One of our neighbors posted a doorbell camera video of an Amazon delivery being cut open at their door, and the AirPods inside being removed and pocketed by the delivery person. Obviously a not so bright delivery person, but it happened. A few others chimed in that their packages had been tampered with and were missing items.

The neighbor reported this to Amazon, and I'm hopeful they'll take appropriate measures, but I wanted to bring attention to this and encourage people to take appropriate precautions. One very simple action is to install a doorbell camera. There are various models on the market, and the one we use is available for around $100, is very easy to install, has it's own memory (no monthly fee or subscription), and connects through wi-fi to our smartphones so we not only have a record of who comes to the door whether they ring the bell or not, but we can also converse with them in real time if we choose to. The brand is called Euphy and is available through multiple suppliers.

I don’t have a doorbell camera but do use their wireless cameras around the house. And just bought 3 more on a Black Friday sale to surveil the back yard when the dogs are outside.

Haven't done the cameras yet, but it's on my list of future projects as unfortunately with growth we're seeing a little more shady activity around our neighborhood.

But they can help understand what happened. I’ve got the video of myself being mugged in my driveway before work a couple of years ago. Nothing came of it but I got a nifty video souvenir of being robbed at gunpoint.

But the guy was masked and the neighborhood ‘dragnet’ didn’t find him. He got a little over a hundred bucks and a couple of credit cards that were cancelled within an hour.
I did catch a dog-sitter who didn’t pick up after the dog and some porch pirates videos but nothing actionable to the level of the mugging.

Glad it wasn't anything more serious than what you experienced.

Ha! The dog pooping is a real community concern around here. People get super wound up about it. Back when they were first developing our community we had a fairly large pack of coyotes still roaming around. Their scat is pretty similar to dogs, and people were always complaining about them erroneously thinking it was the neighbors. Good times! LOL

And I happen to personally know the neighbor so I can vouch for their integrity. YMMV.

Wrapper with my name and packing slip inside on my patio. I spied it when I was coming in. Otherwise, I would never have known it was delivered.

It was perfume marketed toward young girls. Guess it didn't meet the thief's requirements!

And I can watch it via my phone or laptop. There are cheaper ones, but this was a the best under-$75 I found.
