Just heard on our community FB page about a new disturbing issue with at home deliveries. One of our neighbors posted a doorbell camera video of an Amazon delivery being cut open at their door, and the AirPods inside being removed and pocketed by the delivery person. Obviously a not so bright delivery person, but it happened. A few others chimed in that their packages had been tampered with and were missing items.
The neighbor reported this to Amazon, and I'm hopeful they'll take appropriate measures, but I wanted to bring attention to this and encourage people to take appropriate precautions. One very simple action is to install a doorbell camera. There are various models on the market, and the one we use is available for around $100, is very easy to install, has it's own memory (no monthly fee or subscription), and connects through wi-fi to our smartphones so we not only have a record of who comes to the door whether they ring the bell or not, but we can also converse with them in real time if we choose to. The brand is called Euphy and is available through multiple suppliers.

(19,379 posts)I paid $118 for this a few months ago. It does require power, but most existing doorbells should provide it. They make a battery powered version also.

(2,550 posts)I dont have a doorbell camera but do use their wireless cameras around the house. And just bought 3 more on a Black Friday sale to surveil the back yard when the dogs are outside.

(19,379 posts)Haven't done the cameras yet, but it's on my list of future projects as unfortunately with growth we're seeing a little more shady activity around our neighborhood.

(2,550 posts)But they can help understand what happened. Ive got the video of myself being mugged in my driveway before work a couple of years ago. Nothing came of it but I got a nifty video souvenir of being robbed at gunpoint.

(19,379 posts)Sorry that happened to you. The police did nothing? was the assailant identifiable?
unweird
(2,550 posts)But the guy was masked and the neighborhood dragnet didnt find him. He got a little over a hundred bucks and a couple of credit cards that were cancelled within an hour.
I did catch a dog-sitter who didnt pick up after the dog and some porch pirates videos but nothing actionable to the level of the mugging.

(19,379 posts)Glad it wasn't anything more serious than what you experienced.
Ha! The dog pooping is a real community concern around here. People get super wound up about it. Back when they were first developing our community we had a fairly large pack of coyotes still roaming around. Their scat is pretty similar to dogs, and people were always complaining about them erroneously thinking it was the neighbors. Good times! LOL

(19,379 posts)It was perfume marketed toward young girls. Guess it didn't meet the thief's requirements!
