(14,750 posts)They are likely spread out across multiple shell companies. Getting a seizure order would be difficult and complex.
Besides, the few big assets out there are under water; he owes more than they are worth.
My guess is the bulk of his liquid assets are offshore and untouchable. Losing trump tower wouldn't mean much financially.

(8,820 posts)what he has been telling us. Any assets he does have, are stashed away in some off shore country. I suspect most of his real estate holdings are leveraged to the point where his investment is minimal.
Does the Supreme Court have the ultimate say after the NY rulings????????????? I am sure Trump thinks so. Maybe that is the reason he located in Florida to continue his scheming and grifting??????????
getagrip_already
(14,750 posts)I think anyway. They would have to find some us constitutional issue to use as a pretext.
I'm not sure one exists unless they try to seize assets outside of nys.
But again, nys could only seize trumps own assets; not those of the trump corp beyond trumps ownership in it. And trump corp is a hall of mirrors. For all anyone knows, they don't even own the holding company that holds the holding company that owns the holding company that owns a piece of trump tower any longer. It is mostly condo''s anyway, so what would you seize?
DENVERPOPS
(8,820 posts)in the Constitution what the USC CAN and CAN'T rule on didn't make much difference in their corruption of installing WBush instead of Gore.
Constitutional lawyers have told me that the USC had absolutely, positively no right to do that. It was a state's rights issue and Florida should have followed their guidelines in allowing the re-count to continue despite what the USC ordered.......
Several large legal colleges investigated the issue after the fact, and as I recall, they agreed that it was a state's right issue, the USC had no legal standing to intervene, and that if the re-count had continued, their investigations all concluded that Gore would have won.......
That fiasco should have been the final wake up call to the entire nation...................
getagrip_already
(14,750 posts)That the recount would cause a constitutional crisis by delaying certification.
It was bs, but that was what they used. They also cya'd themselves by stating the decision could not be used as precedant for any other purpose.
So yeah, they can invent something, but it would be a stretch.....
DENVERPOPS
(8,820 posts)will soon revisit their statement about them not using any decision by them as a precedent........LOL
It is the Wild Wild West in America, folks......anything goes. The Republicans completely threw out the U.S. Constitution and any Rule of Law that existed once Trump was installed........
If we each had a dollar, for every time someone in the past four years said: "They Can't Do That", all of us would be zillionaires.....
I think we have to realize that we don't know a ten thousandth of what they did in the shadows, and is still lurking out there........

(14,750 posts)They will pervert the constitution and laws for their own twisted religious logic to be sure, but I really don't think they have a desire to protect tfg in any ugly ways.
I don't think even duff-man likes him very much. And it wouldn't move them any closer to their goals to protect him.
They might slow walk a decision, but so far at least, they haven't thrown him any wins. And they had a lot of opportunities clearly in their wheelhouse.
I don't even think they will protect him on the jan 6 docs (unless they somehow implicate the whiter thomas).
Nope, tfg probably won't get any lifelines on his ny troubles from scotus.
One caveat might be that if he really does become the qop candidate of record, they could rule that a stay is warranted until after the election. Just to keep things "fair".....
DENVERPOPS
(8,820 posts)But, I have given up betting on anything, no matter how wild or crazy or un-thinkable.
Then again, I have to believe that the Republicans want to be rid of Trump, but retain the Republican allegiance of Trump's voters.....
It would be in their interest to have Trump trashed by the Democrats.......and be rid of him......he has served his purpose.....

(23,666 posts)If he is only listed as the CEO, then can they really be seized? I don't know how this works, but it seems to me at some point Trump would have taken steps to keep his business separate from him in a legal sense just so this wouldn't happen. Or so if someone sued him they couldn't go after his assets.

(21,337 posts)he can plead the 5th in James' civil suit, but boy would that be bad optics for him, plus that can be used against him in the civil trial. Pleading the 5th can't be used against him in a Cy Vance criminal trial if that ever happens. The Tish James civil trial is not complicated, she has the documents, she already has the case against him, she doesn't need him to appear for a deposition. In a civil trial she doesn't have to prove intent. The Trump organization could stand to lose hundreds of millions of dollars.
As far as Trump Tower goes, I'm not sure that it is even one of the properties being investigated. If it is we all know that the Saudis bought a boat load of floor space there to keep it in the black.

(21,337 posts)she forced Eric Trump to testify. As I said, she doesn't need Trump's deposition, she has the documents. signed, sealed, and delivered.
I am sure that Trump's lawyers do not want him to testify any where, any place, any time. The guy is a compulsive liar, he cannot help himself. I am sure that his lawyers would rather have Trump just plead the 5th to everything from the deposition.

(3,392 posts)The SOB has to pay for all the damage he has done to this country and the World. It is amazing how one stupid man has created so much anxiety around the World, it can only happen because it is the USA, if it were a small insignificant country people would not be paying attention.
People know that were the USA to become a totalitarian regime, George Orwell's "1984" will become a reality for the entire World, although I do believe if republicans are able to begin their totalitarian dream that we will have a civil war, the BIG QUESTION is, which side will the military take?

(3,561 posts)My thinking is that if it appeared that the U.S. was going to devolve into a Civil War because the civilian authorities had loss control, we would have a military coup. There is too much at stake to let the nation have a conflagration - both domestically and internationally.
I think the real powers (civilian and military) would move behind the scenes in some cases to ensure that some of our public leaders would disappear (suicide, airplane crashes, car accidents, gunshots - much like the USSR used to do) and the media (FAUX, personalities, etc.,) would quickly fall into line. Maybe State control of the media for a defined limit (forever) of time. By controlling the messaging, the nation would cool down. And the figures that led up to the abyss would be dead or dying.
So, ultimately we might approach the cliff, but we wont fall over - but there will be a rash of deaths in the highest ranks of our society, with various collateral damage with the knuckleheads.
My opinion.
