6. To be fair to Florida

it's not a DeSantis thing, most likely. Lines in NYC are insane right now. People are traveling, visiting family, going to work parties and need negative tests, going to house parties and need negative rapid tests. Everyone is requesting tests to do things.

So it's not surprising they're backed up, just as all of our testing sites are. And we have a lot of them.

I'm glad people are getting tested, tbh.

16. You know, Florida's actually great in many ways. The good and bad are similar.

I love Florida for its independent, feisty, funny, warm, earthy, generous, pithy, nature-and-ocean-loving people. They are often dreamers and mavericks and storytellers and rogues. And that’s just the old ladies…

Except for snowbirds and retirees, who deserve great respect but are sort of permanent tourists, the folks in Florida mostly want to do as they please. There’s a reason Buffett is such a hero. His songs are the fantasy, and in many ways the way people see themselves. At least the Caucasian people. Remember, there’s an enormous Mexican, Cuban, Black, and various Asian populations there as well. And in Miami a very big gay population. They like the weather and the lifestyle that makes living rich.

And that’s its downfall as well. As with the Midwest and parts of the South, they hate the idea of being interdependent and rule-bound. And they’re freaked out by all the intrusions on their culture from—well, everywhere. At one time they could do that. Not now. The fantasy of not needing anybody so not being able to be hurt by anybody is long gone. And the outside world is being misrepresented by the grifters so badly that many have dug in and resisted the thing they think is going to destroy them and all they love. You and I know we don’t want to destroy them, that we need them and they need us, and we can cooperate to mutual benefit without either conquering or being conquered and subsumed, but those who’re using them for power and money are on them constantly, using their desire to stay who they are to destroy everything they are. It’s so sad. And their blindness makes me crazy. But there it is…

Lanes opened at 9, we got there around 8:30.

By the time the lanes opened, they were already snaking well around the side streets.

14. Not crazy. But eye opening for those of us in areas where Covid numbers are still very low.

I had no idea. My area of Pittsburgh, though a lot of non masked folks, seems to have low numbers now. The vaxxed % is high.
