WASHINGTON, Dec 17 (Reuters) - Southwest (LUV.N) Chief Executive Gary Kelly tested positive for COVID-19 after appearing at a U.S. Senate hearing on Wednesday, a spokesperson for the airline confirmed to Reuters.

Kelly appeared at the Senate Commerce hearing with the CEOs of United Airlines and American Airlines (AAL.O) as well as a senior Delta Air Lines (DAL.N) executive and the head of a flight attendants union. Kelly drew attention at the hearing for questioning the health benefits of masks on airplanes.

The other airlines did not immediately comment on whether their executives had tested for COVID-19.

Southwest said that "although testing negative multiple times prior to the Senate Commerce Committee Hearing, Gary tested positive for COVID-19 after returning home, experiencing mild symptoms, and taking a PCR test."

this should put him on the path of requiring all passengers to wear a mask and be fully vaccinated....

I don't know but assume he is at least vaccinated....I could be wrong.

So depressing and just plain political....As an RN in the field of non-compliance with covid-19 prevention protocols... I am exhausted.

This is only fuel to keep the virus active.

This won't change his mind about shit. He'll be back to complaining about masks being required in no time at all.

I think the number of people who have had very mild cases who then go on to be anti-vaxx advocates, etc. is much underestimated. The "lesson" of COVID works both ways.
