(6,017 posts)Every time it finds a new area that hasn't been infected before and hasn't been vaccinated, it replicates frequently. And the more it replicates, the better chance of mutations that favor the virus.
This is why it is so important for wealthier nations to supply vaccinations to the world - or better still, simply force open licensing.

There are different rates of infection and intensity found in England than South Africa. The data is different between them for lots of reasons including data gathering, population diversity and vaccine variant.
England may hold more relevance for US impact due to vaccines used and population makeup.

(17,149 posts)His wife's job is moving them there. They've both been boostered. Living here in San Francisco, they've had the advantage of a precautions-aware population. I hope they find the same in London. They'll need to be very careful until my grand daughter is old enough to get vaccinated.

(2,361 posts)It will be less severe, either because of immunity or intrinsic severity. However, health care workers are the weakest link and hospitals still could be overwhelmed.
