Itll be tough in an off year to gain Senators but its what we must do to make people like Manchin (and Sinema) irrelevant.

(424 posts)Posted below in a similar thread, two more, ten more, same issue. It is chasing the carrot on a stick, and if you recall, the one being manipulated is a Donkey.
Some of us remember 2008 and the rat fucking done to keep Franken from being seated.
The system is broken, pushing for a Super Majority allows many Dems to point fingers back at youth vote for being the issue.
So the magic number of 60 is like believing in Santa Clause.
The number isn't 60, because it will always allow those to defend Senators from "red states" of doing what is needed to get reelected.
Add five or ten more, more excuses.

(424 posts)I did not say we didn't need more Democratic Senators.
Getting two more, or ten more provides a bit more leverage but is not the cure all.
We have lived through it, promises made, then not enough gets passed and fingers are immediately pointed at progressives and youth for being the problem.
I turn 60 early next year, have always voted, seen enough. It is not the progressives and the youth that are the issue. Scroll down a few pages, you can find people defending Manchin just a few days ago. To add insult to injury, you will find slams of The Squad and Progressives. I recall one actually saying they need to learn from Manchin, he is a winner. I could go to some RW site and see the same comments with tRumps name replacing Manchin.
If AOC ever pulls what Manchin has over the past year, especially what he pulled this morning, then I will tear into her. Until that happens, I can clearly see the root cause, and it ain't The Squad, Progressives, Youth.
I feel I am being morally consistent. tRump is a symptom, those supporting and voting for him are the problem. Just because a person has a D behind their name doesn't mean they aren't a part of the problem. Goes for those supporting any Dem that pulls stunts like these.

(50,949 posts)so we can have a minority, lose the committees and have Mitch Speaker again.
No one likes this but it is sad that in times like this we always have to hear from the finger pointers among us.
The part about electing more Democrats not being a solution IS new, though. I'll give you that.

(424 posts)I will put up 10k to back that up.
Zell Miller, Joe Lieberman, same playbook being followed.
You want to defend Manchin, have at it.
Manchin needs to be called out, Jen Psaki started down that path, the gut instincts are correct. Deal with the consequences and fall out. Appease Manchin and Sinema, then win a battle and lose the war.
Edit to add:
When friends and family who are tRump supporters, is it any different when they defend him using lame excuses. tRump lacks morals, only cares on what impacts him, he and his family have a long history of being dishonest and untrustworthy. Replace tRumps name with Manchin. (To be clear not saying the two are equal). Is there anything in the above statement that is not valid.
So rather than working on trying to get me hides and banned, work on solutions. If any solution includes Manchin as a key contributor, try again.

(50,949 posts)You might want to learn something about how the Senate works before you keep spouting nonsense like that.

(424 posts)Last month they carved out a special exemption to cover the debt ceiling. You might want to think prior to calling someone else about lack of knowledge.

(50,949 posts)been a doozy. There are more people than me who see your nonsense for what it is.
And I was wondering why you were seeing all these posts you are describing that defend Manchin, when what I am seeing is the opposite. I think, from your posts in this thread that the answer is clear: you seem to have some problems with reading comprehension.

(29,149 posts)This is, frankly, a clusterfuck. But it was always going to be a clusteruck. It was pretty easy to see this coming when the split the bills and then especially when they passed the separate bill. I'm not confident that holding course on the other strategy would have worked--I mean, I guess we'll never know, but Manchin always had the power to blow up Biden's agenda and it's clear that he was going to exercise that power if he got the chance.
Ugh.
