the midterms.
If that happens, then it will be a self-fufilled prophecy, not unlike what happened in 2016

And these two supposed fellow party members know exactly what effect this sort of disingenuous playing to the GOP base does.

(7,820 posts)Voter suppression efforts and even rules that allow state leaders to substitute their own electors even if Voters dont go their way are flooding state houses. Along with extreme gerrymandering. Without voter protection legislation, Repugs are determined that 2020 will be the last national election they lose. All the gotv efforts we can muster may not be enough to overcome that. Voter protection laws need to be priority number one. No holds barred, whatever it takes. We wont be able to fix anything else if we cant make sure people can vote. Full stop.

(26,045 posts)Look, I dont like it any more than you, but trying to drum up support for November under these circumstances is an exercise in futility. Sure, lots of voters will buy into understandable scare tactics of what might happen if Republicans take power again but a significant enough percentage, particularly if those who hoped Biden would not just be the non-Trump, but actually enact positive change, will argue fool me once and stay home. Almost certainly enough to make the difference.
