It is a deep cutting attack on the very core of our party. It hands the Rethugs a huge warhammer to pound us over the head with for the next 3 years. It is a dire betrayal by Manchin, especially as he did it on FOX NEWS.
No wonder Biden is enraged, especially after Manchin just days before went to the White House in person, shook Biden's hand, and gave Biden a written framework that was very close, minus a few key things, to Biden's own, and was a clear pathway to a final bill.

(6,837 posts)Don't even entertain the possibility that life could be any other way. They're still "Lincoln" republicans. Remind me of my maternal family branch. Still believed Democrats were all "Dixie-crats" even decades after LBJ. And, of course, Roosevelt was Satan incarnate despite the fact that they'd have all starved to death without the New Deal.

(6,837 posts)The exceptions to democratic government written into the constitution reek of corporate overreach. Those errors have haunted us ever since. The fabric of our society requires that we ignore the elephant in the room every four years.

(7,839 posts)One man holds up bills passed infinity to 1.
One man holds up state federal judgeships?
One man torchs Supreme Court judge nomination?
One mans vote torched because no one figure out how to create an independent and fair districting system so one mans vote counts equally with his fellow man?
Concentration of power in old white men is the system.
Concentration of power historically in old white men means only two old white parties permitted to exist.
White power is what is already baked into the system, its hidden under the veneer of
tradition?
ancianita
(36,109 posts)claims to tradition, and what eventually is called PR, slow rolls out through political tools' 'rules' of obstruction as "democratic process," and growing white male power as "tradition" -- because their rules equate with boring old rule of law.
Criminalizing of Black Americans is okay under the Thirteenth Amendment, Section 1:
Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
Bottom line, what more is needed to keep white men on top but the loophole that has been used to criminalize (black codes, repeated protest assembly arrests, jaywalking, loitering, sleeping in a park, etc.) non-white Americans, even convict children as adults.
This law makes government a menace for all non-white non-male Americans, under fascist white supremacists.
Alexander Of Assyria
(7,839 posts)rotated between two parties depending on the vote count every 2 years. What a ducking scam.
What other nation had to amend their constitution to abolish slavery of a fellow person?
And when the slavery was abolished they forgot to put in a part about reparation for the slavery just now then abolished after generations of unimaginable evil nationwide.
White privilege is a thick blanket, but I have hope can pull back the wool over too many peoples eyes.
ancianita
(36,109 posts)reparations and atonement will save us tools from the evils of corporate enslavement and trafficking of humans over centuries of corporate for-profit building projects.
It's why Biden is getting such heavy corporate media blowback and resistance; they don't want to face human justice. But corporate charter dissolution will change every CEO's and boardroom's behavior to finally stop sacrificing humans for their Mammon.
Alexander Of Assyria
(7,839 posts)for Canadas slavery, the subjugation of aboriginals and actual money for reparations and repair of broken systems is in the budget.
ancianita
(36,109 posts)There's a major reparations calculator that I read about in The 1619 Project, too.
Regardless, Canada's leaders should get back to us. We're so morally lazy that we'd rather just kick that can down the road and hand over our taxes to already-rich people. Perpetuate the system corporations built rather than restore wealth to those whose labor we've benefitted from. It's horrible.

I think we can do it in the Senate. I just hope and pray we can maintain a majority in the House as well. That seems to be the bigger question.

Schumer appears to be calling a caucus "let's moan about Manchin" meeting for tomorrow night. Given Manchin's decision to announce on Fox while ignoring calls from the White House... perhaps he won't show up.

(8,054 posts)in republican districts that could primary Manchin. There has to be that person, because if they speak the truth like Bernie does to the West Virginians, he'd get elected, and we could get rid of Manchin. W. Virginia is red, but they have enough independence of spirit to pull the lever for someone with a "D" after their name, so I think we should give it a try.
