(15,646 posts)another social media site? DU is already one.
I don't see many links posted to FB or instagram or tumblr or whatevr. Why is twitter given so much prominence?
I have a twit account but really don't want their new ownership to know every time I want to read a DU post.
Please add a bit of context to your post.

I don't do Instagram, Tumblr or FB so I can't chime in on that. I do know that videos from FB & Instagram do not show up on DU, but videos from Twitter do (for most people).

(7,367 posts)It's not the first time members have complained about it. Mine seems to do it every few months. I suspect it occurs when browsers are updated.

(7,367 posts)My own inability to see Tweet-related content seems to happen on waves. It's usually not an issue. This week it is, just after Firefox did an update.

(7,367 posts)I've had the same problem (as have others) off and on. I just tried it on Chrome and it shows up just fine. It does not show up using Firefox. (they just did an update so I suspect their default is high security settings)

(15,646 posts)in outside content (twitter, groper, etc.) in order to even decide if the content is worth reading.
When the browsers (and DU) allow automatic linkages of images from "trusted" sites like twitter, we (DU) are also allowing these outside sites to get way too much of our personal information - just for trying to understand a DU post.
IMHO, every reference to a non-DU site should involve the DU reader to positively acquiesce to their information being read by the external site.
While we all thing twitter.com is just a news site, it is mainly a harvester of people's information. Just like google, fb, apple, ...
Sorry for the rant in this response, but we are all acting like sheep. Me too.
