Committee, Nancy Pelosi and Congress.
Can someone tell me why this type of suing is allowed?
One would thing that the Committee is doing its job. They are trying to investigate this 1/6 insurrection. Find out who is behind it and prevent it from ever happening again.
One would think that there should be no way anything should impede such an investigation. Yet - many of those being called to appear before the committee are suing the committee.
Shouldn't there be a rule(?) to prevent such a procedure for being used in a Congressional Investigation? And if there isn't such a rule(?) shouldn't Congress vote to make such a rule(?) for future investigations?
It seems that all these tactics that are being used by these traitors are designed to protect the guilty. Is that the kind of system that we want to continue.
We need to hold these people 'accountable' - but they seem to be able to wiggle out of every attempt to get to the truth.
What gives?

(21,873 posts)It may delay things.
The attorneys signing off on the pleadings are jeopardizing their wallets and their careers. They could get sanctioned for filing frivolous, vexatious litigation. It could lead to an ethics complaint and possible suspension of their license to practice. Why would anyone with a rational brain cell left in his/her head do that?

(2,353 posts)Our courts make it easy to sue and hard to win.
On top of that, nuisance lawsuits like these frequently result in the original plaintiff being responsible for the legal costs of the other side. So, they may end up with huge bills from the other side.
It is either a PR stunt a stalling tactic or both.
In this case, a good way to fleece the rubes to pay for the inevitable legal costs of the other side and an opportunity to act outraged while stalling.

(2,879 posts)Maybe they can appeal any convictions afterwards, but congress needs to be able to investigate freely. Especially after they were attacked physically by a violent mob.
