I grew up in NJ/NY and sometimes can’t understand southerners very well. She sounds perfect to me.

I am almost 60, and have no issues with her. She is a liberal rep from a liberal district. Seems that many here don’t care for her much.

She fights for voter rights and opposes election interference/theft by ANYONE.

Comparing Waters with people who tried to illicitly set aside the will of the voters, even it was "only" the will of 6 million Democratic voters in a presidential primary, is an outrageously insulting comparison. In 2016 Maxine Waters protected the right of Democrats to choose their candidate against those who shamefully made it necessary. Shamefully. This wasn't a little thing just because it failed.

To me it's appalling that anyone here would have to ask why so many people disapprove of those who made it necessary for Waters to refuse to set aside the popular vote when asked. Accusing them of racism is just a nasty cherry on top of what it is that scares me.

And it's not Ocasio-Cortez herself but the millions who can be distracted by charismatic politicians from protecting even their own right to choose. She's no doubt mostly a decent person and is genuinely admirable in her passionate and talented involvement. But there are others to choose from who also are and who can be trusted to use their power to protect our vote. Like Waters.

First, she primaried a party big wig, which is the most unpardonable sin you could ever commit.

Second, she does not accept “Well, there’s nothing we can do” helplessness that permeates some parts of our party. For instance, we can’t get any Climate legislation passed, but she/they organized the Civilian Climate Corps to fight climate change and keeps fighting for more. This shames some Congresspeople who, for whatever reason, aren’t taking any action.

I'd bet a huge majority of the people in NY-14 don't have Twitter, Instagram, or Twitch accounts, much less computers. That's not the way to communicate with the constituency of NY-14.

She's also said some odd things recently on Twitter and in interviews.

Median household income in her district is $66,749 which is higher than the national average. It’s not even one of the poorest districts in NY.

....sections of that district as well as very poor sections.

For example, are you familiar with City Island? It's small, but VERY rich.

More statistics about it's position within NYS:

Income per capita is 24th of 27 districts (3 have lower income per capita)
Income per household is 19th of 27 (8 have lower income / household)
Income below poverty line 6th of 27 (21 have lower %)

It's also:

2nd of 27 with foreign born
3rd of 27 with Hispanic or Latino

81% of households living in multi-unit building (i.e., many of those are NOT owned by the residents) - only 31% own their homes.

Finally, its sandwiched between two of the poorest districts in NYS - the 13th and the 15th.

Conclusion - yes, she's in one of the poorest districts, one of the least fluent in English AND one of the oldest constituencies in NYS, if not the country.

Getting back to my point, a very small number of residents of NY-14 communicate on Twitter, Instagram, Twitch, or even Facebook. That is NOT the way to communicate with them.

You said poorest in the country. It’s not even close. And I’m not sure why you think it’s one of the oldest. Your link shows there are 22 districts in her state with a higher percentage of seniors. It’s actually one of the youngest if you measure by people under the age of 5. They don’t vote, though.
