Did Tr**p Really Think He Could Get Away With Stealing The Election?....

The whole world was watching. There's no way he would have pulled out a win.

I just can't believe that the Repugs have and are still going along with him. There must be a large number of them that were involved with the planning and carrying out of the insurrection.

Again - I'm blown away that they really thought that they could pull this off.

I'm almost surprised there haven't been more Republican lawyers trying to reinterpret the 13th Amendment of the Constitution, to permit slavery again by obfuscating the definition of the word.

African Americans have indeed received the brunt of the social dominance relished by many people in this country's history. They've repeatedly been like the canaries in the coal mine, so to speak.

It wasn't too long before the colonization of America that feudalism had persisted for centuries in Europe, with serfs providing almost the entirety of gross domestic product in those mostly agricultural economies. Meanwhile, they had few opportunities to advance their positions in life. Many of them weren't even allowed to visit some relative at a nearby town without prior permission from their local lord. And those kinds of social hierarchies obviously still appealed to many early Americans, including the founding fathers, so they persisted.

Many modern-day Republicans who want to dominate others are obviously fine with it. I sometimes wonder if the "good old days" to them might mean a return to a feudal system, given the way they act.

How did they get away with stealing 2000? They pretty blatantly said, "we don't like where this recount is headed, so we're going to stop it now while the Republican is still ahead and arbitrarily declare the process over. Oh hey, our guy won. What are the odds."

The idea that justice is best served by not looking too closely at the votes is bonkers, but they got away with it.

And then Donnie won in 2016 after being behind in pretty much every reasonable poll all campaign long.

How is it that the reichstag agreed to end itself and hand over all powers to hitler? Crazy right? Couldn't possibly happen. Well, unless they felt threatened by a bunch of violent partisans screaming for more power for their guy....

In MI for example, Hillary's lead had fallen to within the margin of error.

" In late October 2016, Clinton's lead narrowed significantly towards the election. Trump also won the last poll conducted on election day 49% to 47%.[32] The average of the last three polls had Clinton leading Trump 47.6% to 45%"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_United_States_presidential_election_in_Michigan#Polling

TFG ended up winning the state by just 10,704 votes.

It's important to look at the margin of error when reading the polls. A poll showing a candidate having a lead of 3% with the margin of error being +/- 4% means the other candidate could still win.

Your comment:

"How is it that the reichstag agreed to end itself and hand over all powers to hitler?"

It was President Hindenburg that appointed Hitler to be Chancellor. Hitler was chancellor when the Reichstag fire happened and he convinced Hindenburg to sign the Reichstag Fire Decree into law which the Weimar Republic constitution allowed him to do. The Nazi's used this la to purge communist's out of the Reichstag which gave the Nazis and their allies majority control of the Reichstag.

People didn't imagine that he would practically waltz in as chancellor and become an overt dictator in a matter of 52 days.

When you combine demonization of political opponents enough violence to make an excuse for emergency powers, anything can happen.

And it could have, here, on January 6.
