Greene also attempted to slander activist Maulana Karenga, who created the seven-day holiday in 1966. Karenga, who was convicted of felonious assault and false imprisonment in 1971, has insisted he was targeted because of his work in Black nationalist politics.
According to Newsweek, Karenga currently serves as chair of the Africana Studies Department at California State University, Long Beach.
Social media users tried to educate the Republican, first informing her that Kwanzaa is not a religion.

(7,895 posts)One who is uncontrolled and therefore a serious and unpredictable danger. For example, We can't trust her to talk to the press-she's a loose cannon. This metaphoric expression alludes to cannon mounted on the deck of a sailing ship, which if dislodged during combat or a storm could cause serious damage to both vessel and crew by sliding about. Its figurative use dates from the first half of the 1900s.

"bad temper; spite"
I hope it catches on so that even MTG hears her new moniker and tweets something stupid about her spleen, the organ, not her vile personality.

(25,816 posts)He was named Ron Karenga then and came to speak at my university. The Black Student Union,
a small group at my fairly conservative school, had me hold the front row for them. Besides my
girlfriend and one or two white guys, they were my only friends in school. So after everyone had
been seated, the BSU came down the aisle in dashikis, walking slow to the first row. It was quite
impressive back then and there. After Ron spoke, we hung out to talk, the BSU and a few whites.
I don't remember any mention of Kwanzaa then.

(35,662 posts)interesting recollection. I guess it is probably not a surprise that he went so far in life, being the chair of Africana studies.
