The devotion of these fools to seeing our country's history as a pastel gauze makes one Miss Pollyanna seem a hard-nosed realist by compare.

Fathers would be horrified by who some of the members of Congress are today. They also would be horrified by the fact that they are trying to do away with our democracy and also their ignorance of our constitution or maybe the fact they ignore what the constitution says.

and the lack of literacy among so many of our politicians and "Christian" leaders (by which I mean not the actual Christian ones, but the ones that are heading up the churches that the GOP attends, most of which tend to be uneducated, uncredentialled, and unaccountable to any group, and tend also to be hate spewing shits)

They would oppose universal suffrage, income taxes, abortion rights, free education and many other gains we have made as a people over the centuries.

... early forms of free public education. Not as egalitarian as we would want it, of course, but they were not against it in principle. At the time abortion was not illegal, and was even advertised in newspapers. I'm not sure about income taxes... there might not have been a concept of them to oppose... but property taxes are a form of wealth tax and they were not opposed to that.
