'I thought it was a joke': Melania Trump selling off her stuff causes questions about her cash needs

Former First Lady Melania Trump offered up a new non-fungible token (NFT) piece of artwork last week and this week she's selling the hat she wore during an official state visit to the U.S. by French President Emmanuel Macron. She has also autographed the hat for the buyer and the prices start at $250,000.

Mrs. Trump, a former model, focused a lot on her fashion while in the White House. She is the first among the first ladies to auction off her belongings, though she says that a "portion" of the funds will go to her "Be Best" campaign's foster care initiative, which aimed to fight bullying.

It's unknown if the former first lady intends to offer any additional auction items in the future. The auction runs through Jan. 25.

I have a idea maybe her and the family can get around a table or a booth next to Roger Stone and hand have a flea market sale....in fact the state of Florida has the supposedly biggest one there in the state, and just may they can get a discount price of having two booths made up next to Roger Stone, and DeathSatan can stand out front hawking his shit sandwich....

He admitted to using the foundation’s money to settle obligations of some of his for-profit companies, including a golf club in Westchester County, N.Y., and Mar-a-Lago, his private club in Florida which he frequently visits. And he admitted that the foundation had given his presidential campaign control over about $2.8 million that the foundation had raised at a veterans fund-raiser in Iowa in January 2016. Mr. Trump acknowledged the fund-raiser was in fact a campaign event.

The Trump Foundation, which Mr. Trump founded in 1987, disbanded last December after an investigation by Barbara Underwood, then-acting attorney general of New York. Ms. Underwood’s office found “unlawful coordination with the Trump presidential campaign, repeated and willful self-dealing, and much more.”

It is illegal for charitable foundations to advance the self-interests of their executives.

As part of the settlement, Mr. Trump’s three children who were officers of the foundation — Eric Trump, Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump — were ordered to undergo mandatory training to ensure they do not engage in similar misconduct in the future.

IIRC, the president and his family can not keep gifts over a certain value. Many designers give clothes to first ladies for the publicity value, but those are the property of the US - unless the person given them chooses to buy them (Michelle Obama did purchase some of the outfits designed for her).

So, is Mel selling things she actually paid for, or is she ripping off taxpayers - again.

but someone who works at on the of the high end places Melanoma buys her stuff back east told me that:

Melania came in, tried on bras until she found one style she really liked. She supposedly ordered 100 of each in white, skin tone, and black.

Evidently, she doesn't like to wear the same bra twice and throws them away at the end of the day??????
Or then, maybe she was stocking up to sell them on line??????????? "once worn by Melania Trump"???????

I don't know if this story is true, but knowing her the way we have observed her these past years I have no reason to doubt it.....

It is clearly obvious from her nude pictures on line, and her actions these past years, that she will do ANYTHING for money........

https://www.history.com/news/mary-todd-lincoln-assassination-facts

Desperate, Mary moved to a cheaper hotel as her expenses mounted. She began to petition Congress for a widow’s pension. Congress was skeptical: They hadn’t given William Henry Harrison’s wife a pension after he died in office in 1841 from pneumonia (his one-month tenure was the shortest of any American president), and Mary’s spending habits were notorious. As Mary’s friend Charles Sumner championed her cause in Washington, she turned her eye to New York.

She had an idea for how to solve her debt problem, and it involved the clothing she’d invested in at such great cost. As a widow, Mary could no longer wear her extravagant ball gowns or other clothing…so why not sell them?

Mary and the dressmaker Keckley headed to the city under assumed names with trunks filled with clothing and jewelry. But the trip was a disaster from the start. Keckley, who was black, could not dine or lodge with Mary in the segregated hotel where they stayed, and Mary’s identity was soon pieced together by jewelers and others who recognized the name on her trunks and markings on her jewelry and clothing.

In short order, she was taken advantage of by W.H. Brady, a merchant who convinced Mary that wealthy New Yorkers would donate money to her cause if she consented to sell her clothing at public auction. He convinced her to hand over private letters—some of which suggested wealthy New Yorkers had engaged in government impropriety—to “validate” her clothing. It was a ploy. The letters seem to have been fabricated to create publicity for the sale, and when news of Mrs. Lincoln’s fire sale hit the newspapers, she became the object of ridicule.
