bill prefiled in Oklahoma (SB 1161) would allow clergy to teach Bible courses in public schools, specifies that the KJV is the primary text to be used in such classes, and would require every school library to have a copy http://oklegislature.gov/BillInfo.aspx?Bill=SB1161&session=2200… #edpolicy

Like the Bible, I doubt many Republicans have actually read it cover to cover. They wouldn't be able to say what they do with a straight face otherwise!

We have a very deliberate separation between Church and State--a government "of the People, by the People, and for the People". We are not a nation founded on Christianity!
The only way this would be acceptable would be if all religious texts were equally covered with the point to show diversity of religious views as part of a class about religious diversity.

The teacher used to read from the Bible, it really upset me because one of my best friends was Jewish she would cover her ears during the lords prayer, unforgivable what they do to children. In the next year all of that stopped

Require that public school teachers be allowed to teach the Big Bang theory and Evolution in churches. Then we can talk.

Many atheists understand the Bible very well.

Ya doesn't have to be a true believer.

Does the bill require that the Bible be taught in a specific manner?

Yet it so often seems to be those weird little one-off, "this makes us look bad!" puff pieces that get the attention, while this-- that will be voted on by a state legislature!!!-- gets little more than a cursory glance at the collective water coolers of the national conversation.

I'm surprised these guys haven't just said, "let's go ahead and vote on a national religion-- lead only by all Christian, all male and all white, of course."

There is plenty of affordable housing in America... The problem is the neighbors.
