(24,412 posts)why do SOME people allow elected officials to blatantly lie- and (re-)elect them?
Nobody here or in the reality-based community is buying anything he is saying, nor trying to allow them to get away with anything, but we don't have the media infrastructure or the power to do much about it.

A high proportion of vaccinated hospitalizations (obviously not "nearly all" is actually a good thing.
1) it reflects a larger vaccinated rate in the population, thus higher admission proportions
2) admissions are not ICU and death. Vaccinated hospitalizations have something like a 10% chance of ICU, and a fraction of that (like 3% of that 10%) risk of death. Unvaccinated are orders of magnitude larger at each stage.
3) higher numbers also reflect higher infections generally in the population, and that leads to the "super immunity" among the vaccinated Fauci spoke to
But details don't matter, right? R Paul frames it like the vacc isn't working to support the Trump cult that doesn't read beyond the headline

(15,381 posts)Claiming it's a bad thing. Eventually the number of vaccinated people will be a big enough chunk of the population that their smaller infection rate will still mean more of them in the hospital than the unvaxxed. Example would be if we just had a population of 100 people. If 95 of them are vaxxed, and the failure rate of vaccines is 6%, then 5 to 6 of the vaxxed are in the hospital. Infection rates for unvaxxed are at least 6 times higher, so that's 36% of 5 people or 1 to 2.
Israel actually experienced this a few times last year, and an anti-vaxxed idiot I know claimed that it was proof COVID had become a pandemic of the vaxxed.

I need to use that example, if you don't mind
The post I had seen was pretty complicated because it was comprehensive.

(15,381 posts)Also, the vaxxed in the hospital will most likely be not suffering as badly as the unvaxxed.

(4,533 posts)Most people in hospitals, for all reasons, are vaccinated. Probably all of them are tested for covid. With omicron many test positive for covid, even tho they lack symptoms or have only minor symptoms. So it is possible that most people in hospitals who test positive for covid are vaccinated. Even tho 95% of those hospitalized FOR covid are unvaccinated.

(10,828 posts)Because everyone's been vaccinated. Which is also a lie. Had we all been vaxxed Covid would have been a memory, a bad memory but definitely in our rear-view mirror.
It's bc of liars like Rand Paul that we're experiencing a 4th surge. Such a giggle!

(82,849 posts)People wear masks, and they still get infected! Masks don't work. People get vaccinated and still get infected! Vaccines don't work. And so on and so forth, ad nauseam.
I've pointed out in different venues examples such as crossing the street or going out in the rain. There's no 100% iron-clad guarantee that a person won't get hit by a car while crossing the street. But looking both ways before stepping off the curb is still a good idea to minimize the risk. If you wear a raincoat or carry an umbrella when you go out in the rain, you're still going to get wet; it's unavoidable. But you're not going to get as wet as you would without these simple precautions.
The nitwits are expending all their brainpower to come up with excuses not to protect themselves and others.

(10,828 posts)That too. The influencers, enablers and supporters of all this are . . . evil, despicable. That includes the likes of Rand Paul and his fellow bandwagon Republicans.
Lives are expendable in the pursuit of power and the endless grift.
Someone needs to slap that smile off of Paul's face. Maybe we could enlist his neighbor. LOL.
