Dismal! "News engagement fell off a cliff in 2021 & given the ongoing decline in interest in news"

And that's why we get the politics coverage that we get.
The media wants Trump and all of his chaos back because it's good for their bottom line

News engagement fell off a cliff in 2021, and given the ongoing decline in interest in news about COVID-19 and in politics absent Trump, it doesn't look like 2022 will be much better.

Maybe it's because of their reporting

Falling viewership means falling revenues.
One would think a different approach would be in order.
You know, like telling the truth & reporting without constantly presenting "both sides" might be a good start.

CBS News internal guidance also advises staff to avoid the coup or insurrection label: "We don’t need to go out of our way to give this an overly dramatic label, This story doesn’t need that. We should not be calling this an attempted coup or a terrorist attack."

@maxwelltani
CBS News standards told staff "protestors, violent protestors, a violent mob, pro-Trump protestors" were all fine to use.

NBC News said the crowd could be referred to as a mob or rioters, but cautioned staff against referring to the act as a coup or attempted coup.

Other than predictable MSM

That's true. I can go to any twitter acct of our Legislators, VP, Pres, etc & find out what's being voted on, what's coming up etc..
I can hear directly from them & bypass the opinion of TV Media's same headlines on every one of them..over & over

I have to republican senators who are beyond useless and one Rookie Dem House Rep who is a whole lot less than I had hoped for, so no need to follow any of them.

Their twitter accts are full of info for their elections, their home districts, the bills they are writing & getting signed by Biden.
Their accts are useful & since MSM never recognizes their existance, I can go scan the twitter accts without logging into a personal acct of my own & know what out legislators are doing.
Its pretty amazing what is really going on in the daily business of them all.

As an old man who never took most commercial news as any more than the filler between commercial breaks or the perspective of the elite.
The roll out of the Iraq invasion sales campaign convinced me that I had to find resources outside the commercial domestic outlets. Hell even the BBC perspective is biased toward certain interests.

because I needed a break. I still stay abreast of current events, but I just had to step back from cable news. It can be very time consuming and addictive. Pretty soon, you are watching the same stories repeated all day long. I know that I am not the only one. I still tune in occasionally, but I know it isn't healthy to watch it all the time.

I don't think there is anything that the MSM can do to lure people back. It isn't normal to be digesting news all day, every day. For many people, myself included, turning on cable news every day started with 9/11 and that cloud of uncertainty caused us to feel the need to always be "tuned in". Some people started a bit earlier with the Bush v. Gore contested election. I'm trying to get a bit more balance in my life, while still staying informed.

I was a CNN regular. Watching today but I gave up because, after TFG, they went back to their tired old Democrat-bashing themes.

Maybe if they actually reported news and reality - like they are doing today, more people would watch.

At times it's destructive. I blame television for both the war in Iraq and Trump.

I quit television news and opinion twenty years ago. The September 11 hyperbole, speculation, and repetition was too much. I quit all cable/satellite/broadcast television a few years later because I didn't want to support that crap with my money or my audience. (My wife has never watched television news or opinion.)

My wife and I subscribe to multiple news sites and read them daily, everything from our local newspaper to international sites.

Does anyone under forty even watch cable news? My children and their cousins only care about their internet connections. Traditional television and radio simply don't exist in their universe. They stream everything, even in their cars.
