I hate it when we defend every little precieved slight. We do not have to justify attacks against attending funerals with responses Those miniscule few he think that there is a gotcha here, are too sick to waste energy on.
Mourning the dead predates civilization, and isn't exclusively a human behavior.

(2,844 posts)But, since they were advertising in the local newspaper they just wanted to reach a local potential clientele. And, the local newspaper (in those days) didn't really try to set the narrative. They just reported what was going on. Sort of like back in the Walter Cronkite era. You know, when they reported the truth.

The breaking news gets around quickly on social media and TV, so newspapers now specialize in in depth analysis, which isn't found on social media or television either one.

(2,957 posts)...that really wouldn't be sufficient to justify including the critical statement.
There will never be a zero-dissenter scenario. The question is, what's the threshold before a journalistic organization should allude to dissenting parties? If a few unknown cranks on Twitter said it wasn't the best use of his time, then it is pointless to mention. It's in the background noise of ever-present haters.
But, if significant numbers of congressional reps, academics or other legit leaders called it out, then it may be worth some analysis. And they should be named and their specific objection needs to be explored.
There needs to be some critical mass of these dissenters - who can be identified - before statements like this should be included in any journalistic product form a news organization. This should be in WaPo's style manual, or whatever internal rules of engagement they have.
I really object to this water-muddying tactic of "...some people are saying...". TFG did this almost every day. It's psyops.

(5,770 posts)... and didn't find anything disrespectful about it. It seemed like straight forward reporting about a practice that sets Biden apart from a lot of politicians, let alone tfg.
The tweet mischaracterizes the article, imho. However, the comments on the article show that there are a lot of folks who do think it was an unwarranted criticism.

(82,849 posts)In case you missed it or don't remember, Linskey was the one who captioned a photo of Biden, who was walking through the Wilmington cemetery where his first wife and child are buried, "as his legislative agenda is dying in Washington."
I'm disinclined to think that Linskey made an innocent error.
