A new HBO documentary that debuted this week tells the story of a man once thought to be a top al-Qaida operative. It also reveals U.S. attempts to justify torture in the name of protecting Americans. Amna Nawaz recently sat down with the filmmaker, Alex Gibney, for our arts and culture series, CANVAS.

got the better of me and I needed to go look at something else.

Watched it again after you posted about it and had to stop once again. This time not as often. More from knowing what to expect than initial impact.

Mitchell is everything I knew he would be - disgusting, vile, warped.

I don't buy for a second anyone mislead Bush.

About the tapes of the torture of Abu Zubaydah, the White House put out this “President Bush has no present recollection of having seen the tapes.” statement.

That's a bullshit statement if there ever was one.
