https://floridapolitics.com/archives/485132-john-kuczwanski-killed-in-road-rage-incident/Kuczwanski was arrested for a separate road rage incident at the same intersection in 2014.
John Kuczwanski, the Legislative Affairs Director for the State Board of Administration, was killed last week in what appeared to be a shootout during a road rage incident north of Tallahassee.
The Leon County Sheriffs Office took one person into custody after the Jan. 6 events, however that person has since been released and no charges have been filed, according to a Thursday LCSO news release.
The office issued an initial statement reporting a fatal shooting that occurred last Thursday, shortly after 5 p.m., near the intersection of Bannerman Road and Thomasville Road, following an altercation between two drivers. Thursdays release confirmed Kuczwanski was killed in the incident. The investigation into what occurred is still ongoing.

Interesting that a person was in custody and then released without charges.

I have family down there and haven't been there in several years. FL gets no more money from me.
I've noticed a weird trend visiting there 3-4 times a year. If you drive with out-of-state plates the drivers are more prone to fuck with you on a daily basis. If you drive with in-state plates, they generally don't start any conflicts at all. Same class of car, same driver, just the plates were different. I attributed this to the CCW and SYG laws.
It got to the point where I would only rent a car that had Florida plates on them, until I said, "Fuck FL."

(47,586 posts)and totally believable. I don't blame you for staying away from Florida. It is like another country, close to a third world country in many respects.

(81,570 posts)The sources said the incident began after Kuczwanskis BMW drifted out of its lane while heading north on Thomasville Road. The BMW hit a white Prius.
Both cars pulled into a parking lot. The driver of the Prius confronted Kuczwanski about hitting him, the sources said. The Prius driver got in his car to wait for law enforcement after confronting Kuczwanski. That is when, according to Florida Politics sources, Kuczwanski rammed his BMW into the Prius on the drivers door, and began pushing the car sideways in the parking lot.
Kuczwanski then shot a gun at the white Prius, according to the sources. The Prius driver drew a gun and fired back into the windshield of Kuczwanskis BMW. Kuczwanski was hit and killed, according to the sources.

(288 posts)Dennis MacKee, speaking on behalf of the State Board of Administration, said he could not confirm that Kuczwanski was the person killed in the road rage incident, but confirmed that he died Thursday, according to the Tallahassee Democrat.
He was a quiet fellow, MacKee said. Everything in his world was about his family.
Previously, Kuczwanski pleaded no contest to assault and disorderly conduct charges in 2014 related to a separate road rage incident at the same intersection, as first reported by Tallahassee Reports.
According to the probable cause affidavit for that case, deputies were dispatched after a driver called to report that another driver had pointed a small, black in color handgun with a mounted laser at him while stopped next to him at the intersection of Thomasville Road and Bannerman Road.
Law enforcement found Kuczwanski still inside the vehicle matching the description from the caller when they responded to that 2014 incident. A deputy verified that Kuczwanski had a weapon matching the callers description and arrested him on the scene. He was later sentenced to probation, which was completed in 2018.
You've got to watch out for the quiet fellows where everything is about their families.

(34,137 posts)I wonder if that has anything to do with the Sheriff's deputies which came out later last night, about 7 PM? There had been reports of someone roaming around in our woods with a flashlight.
It turns out that now that we've had cold enough weather for the underbrush to clear out, whoever put in the report could see lights from some of the houses through the trees they are not used to seeing. Duh.

(21,761 posts)I'd not spoken to him in many years until I moved to Colorado (a good number of my family has relocated here, I love it). I'd heard him repeatedly use this phrase during the first few times we got together, and I found it really weird for a gun nut to use, so I finally asked him if he knew the context, origin and actual meaning... He did not... Of course. So... I explained it to him but he did not believe me and just got angry... Of course. We never discussed it again, but I expect he did look it up as he has never again used it
