Election officials in some of the states largest counties are rejecting an alarming number of mail-in applications because they dont meet the states new identification requirements. Some applications are being rejected because of a mismatch between the new identification requirements and the data the state has on file to verify voters.
Under Texas new voting law, absentee voters must include their drivers license number or state ID number or, if they dont have one, the last four digits of their Social Security number on their applications. If they dont have those IDs, voters can indicate they have not been issued that identification. Counties must match those numbers against the information in an individuals voter file to approve them for a mail-in ballot.
In the old days, voter by mail was mainly used by old GOP voters. I hope that a good number of the GOP base screw this up

(35,300 posts)"Here's my DL or state-ID number."
Unless you don't have one. "Here are the last 4 digits of my SSN."
Nearly all citizens have one. But if you don't,
"Sorry, I don't have one." And the BOE folk say, "Okay."
Now, saying you don't have one when you do opens you up to perjury charges. But if you don't have one, then there's no ID requirement under TX law. You just affirm that you don't have ID. Done.
Makes me wonder about the actual grounds for disqualification for "100s" of rejected ballots 3 months pre-election in a state of 29 million people. Is it ID requirements, or something else?
