Hundreds of Texas mail-in ballot applications are being rejected under Texas' new voting rules

The state Democratic party is warning voters to put their drivers license number and the last four digits of their social security number on their vote by mail application

Hundreds of Texans seeking to vote by mail in the upcoming March primary elections are seeing their applications for ballots rejected by local election offices trying to comply with stricter voting rules enacted by Texas Republicans last year.

Election officials in some of the state’s largest counties are rejecting an alarming number of mail-in applications because they don’t meet the state’s new identification requirements. Some applications are being rejected because of a mismatch between the new identification requirements and the data the state has on file to verify voters.

Under Texas’ new voting law, absentee voters must include their driver’s license number or state ID number or, if they don’t have one, the last four digits of their Social Security number on their applications. If they don’t have those IDs, voters can indicate they have not been issued that identification. Counties must match those numbers against the information in an individual’s voter file to approve them for a mail-in ballot.

In the old days, voter by mail was mainly used by old GOP voters. I hope that a good number of the GOP base screw this up

And if it notifies the voter, does it tell them why it was rejected?

"Here's my DL or state-ID number."

Unless you don't have one. "Here are the last 4 digits of my SSN."

Nearly all citizens have one. But if you don't,

"Sorry, I don't have one." And the BOE folk say, "Okay."

Now, saying you don't have one when you do opens you up to perjury charges. But if you don't have one, then there's no ID requirement under TX law. You just affirm that you don't have ID. Done.

Makes me wonder about the actual grounds for disqualification for "100s" of rejected ballots 3 months pre-election in a state of 29 million people. Is it ID requirements, or something else?

and yes, if you don’t provide the information your ballet doesn’t count. With that said you can find out if your ballet counted or not, I don’t know how you would fix but I think you can

If your state has disenfranchised you and you qualify to vote under our laws, you may vote for all your state's federal elected offices in our state.
