In a new interview, Michael Flynn says that the majority of the population of Washington, DC supported the British during the Revolutionary War.
The problem is that DC didnt exist then. It was a swamp on the Potomac.

Now they're totally into alternative history. To be fair to Traitor Flynn, I think he's really that fucking stupid.

(130,895 posts)Maryland, however,
'Although no major Battles of the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783) occurred in Maryland itself (although the British Royal Navy fleet passed through and up the Bay to land troops at the "Head of Elk" , to attack the colonies' capital city, this did not prevent the state's soldiers from distinguishing themselves through their service. General George Washington counted the "Maryland Line" regiment who fought in the Continental Army especially the famed "Maryland 400" during the Battle of Brooklyn in August 1776, outside New York Town as among his finest soldiers, and Maryland is still known as "The Old Line State" today.'

(42,700 posts)The "city" of Georgetown existed pre-Revolutionary War, as did the City of Alexandria VA, a portion of which later became part of the District of Columbia.
So there probably were a few thousand inhabitants of the area that ultimately became the District of Columbia after the revolution.
It is possible that Flynn's claim is based on the fact that the British promised to free slaves who left their masters and fought for the British, leading to the formation of "Black Loyalist" groups. However, the notion that they represented a majority of the population of the area that became DC is absurd.

No way an Army General doesn't know that DC didn't exist in the 1770s.
It was named after our first revolutionary General who was fighting in MA, NY, NJ, PA and VA, from 1775 to 1783.

(36,788 posts)Gen Michael Flynn and Gen Benedict Arnold both started out as patriots who served their country well.
Arnold died a traitor in England.
He was not lucky enough to have a Donald Trump on his side.

(7,281 posts)Growing up always had the impression that the revolutionary war, was widely supported by colonialists.
it was something of a startling awakening to learn that is the stuff of myth and legends.
Don't know for sure what point Flynn was attempting to make, but it seems apparent he was trying to lay a specious claim for which he is self projecting.
