Former Top FBI Official: ‘Concerning’ Ginni Thomas Signed Letter Saying Jan. 6 Participants ‘Have Done Nothing Wrong’
by David Badash
New Civil Rights Movement, January 18, 2022
A former top FBI official who served as Chief of the Bureau’s Counterespionage Section and led the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election says it’s “concerning” that Ginni Thomas signed a letter attacking the House January 6 Select Committee.
Peter Strzok, who also led the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a personal email server and for a short time served on the Mueller Investigation, responded to Tuesday’s social media eruption over the resurfaced letter signed by Thomas, a far right wing conspiracy theorist and lobbyist who happens to be married to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
That letter calls for U.S. Reps. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger to be expelled from the House Republican conference, which would also involve stripping them of their committee assignments.
Strzok was more focused on the current makeup of the Supreme Court, and other points of the letter which was signed in December by Thomas and more than 60 other mostly far right wing conservatives – making it a veritable who’s who of well-known extreme conservative activists including the head of an anti-LGBTQ hate group.
“Which is more concerning: That the spouse of a SC Justice recently signed a letter calling the Jan 6 Cmttee ‘an overtly partisan political persecution that brings disrespect to our country’s rule of law [and] legal harassment to private citizens who have done nothing wrong’ Or,” Strzok wrote, “The fact that the former President who encouraged those ‘private citizens who have done nothing wrong’ to violently oppose the peaceful transfer of power appointed three of nine Justices to the Supreme Court?”

Ginni Thomas, Wife of the Supreme Court Justice, Helped Advance the Election Disinformation Campaign – Here’s How
by Kristin Doerr, Right Wing Watch
New Civil Rights Movement, Jan. 13, 2021
Excerpt…
In the days leading up to the Jan. 6 mayhem, and on the day itself, the connection between CNP and Stop the Steal—and the campaign’s influence on the White House—became more apparent.
On Dec. 30, Right Wing Watch posted a report about a letter sent by the Conservative Action Project to Senate Republicans urging them to “contest the electoral votes” from “Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Arizona”—the battleground states Biden won. That letter may have not mentioned Stop the Steal by name, but it asked senators to do exactly what Stop the Steal was demanding of Republican members of Congress: to reject electoral votes in favor of Biden.

(19,538 posts)but he damned well should get the hell off the Supreme Court.
You can be a political activist, or you can be a fair and impartial judge, but you can't be both.
Thomas should resign from the Supreme Court, but you know he never will. He's a conservative, and if there are two things conservatives lack, it's honor and integrity.

I really wonder why there was no Democratic filibuster.
Mr.Bill
(24,906 posts)so that only 51 votes are required to seat a Supreme Court Justice. So they can all be proud that only republicans voted for them. Ruth Bader Ginsburg got 93 votes from the Senate.

(19,738 posts)I’m steamed the only time we Democrats can filibuster is when we don’t need it and the only time the pukes cannot use it is when they don’t need to filibuster.
Something is very wrong when Putin’s Poodle Dimdonnie Drumpfler gets to appoint three Associate Justices. And there was nothing we could do about it.
Now, when we need to do a heckuva lot more than expand the Supreme Court, we can’t do squat.

(3,324 posts)The Repukes nuked the filibuster for SCOTUS nominees when tRump nominated Gorsuck for Scalia's seat (after McConnell held the seat open to keep Obama from appointing Garland). The Democrats initiated a filibuster, then McConnell and company nuked it; changed the rules so that SCOTUS nominees (the last federal appointees that could be filibustered at that point) could no longer be filibustered. When Kava-Nope! and Amy COVID Barrett came around, there was a whole lotta nothing they could do.
The Democrats had previously changed the rules for all other nominees and federal judges during the Obama administration because McConnell and the Repukes had filibustered nearly every nominee Obama made after 2012. So, then Democratic Majority Leader Harry Reid changed the rules to try and move things forward. McConnell swore revenge...he got it. But, he was obstructing Obama's choices on an unprecedented scale and with obvious (racist) malice.

(19,738 posts)“If the US has someone whom historians will look back on as the gravedigger of American democracy, it is Mitch McConnell. He stoked the hyperpolarization of American politics to make the Obama presidency as dysfunctional and paralyzed as he possibly could. As with parliamentary gridlock in Weimar, congressional gridlock in the US has diminished respect for democratic norms, allowing McConnell to trample them even more. Nowhere is this vicious circle clearer than in the obliteration of traditional precedents concerning judicial appointments. Systematic obstruction of nominations in Obama’s first term provoked Democrats to scrap the filibuster for all but Supreme Court nominations. Then McConnell’s unprecedented blocking of the Merrick Garland nomination required him in turn to scrap the filibuster for Supreme Court nominations in order to complete the “steal” of Antonin Scalia’s seat and confirm Neil Gorsuch. The extreme politicization of the judicial nomination process is once again on display in the current Kavanaugh hearings.“

(9,689 posts)I know it's more your husband's bailiwick than yours, but a Congressional investigatory committee or a court of law may be the Constitutional way to proceed. We've already witnessed that many, many people were found to have broken American laws on 1/6, so the assertion that everyone involved was a private citizen who've done nothing wrong" has already been proven to be fallacious.

(19,738 posts)In the last six years he has accepted free items valued at $42,200, the most on the high court.
December 31, 2004|Richard A. Serrano and David G. Savage | LA Times Staff Writers
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has accepted tens of thousands of dollars worth of gifts since joining the high court, including $1,200 worth of tires, valuable historical items and a $5,000 personal check to help pay a relative's education expenses.
SNIP...
He also took a free trip aboard a private jet to the exclusive Bohemian Grove club in Northern California -- arranged by a wealthy Texas real estate investor who helped run an advocacy group that filed briefs with the Supreme Court.
Those and other gifts were disclosed by Thomas under a 1978 federal ethics law that requires high-ranking government officials, including the nine Supreme Court justices, to file a report each year that lists gifts, money and other items they have received.
Thomas has reported accepting much more valuable gifts than his Supreme Court colleagues over the last six years, according to their disclosure forms on file at the court.
