Sen. Cornyn⁩ literally presented this board on the floor w/a list of things Republicans will do if Democrats change the filibuster rules. If you’re threatening retaliation in the future, it’s because you can’t meet the argument on the table today.

That assumes that Republicans have control of both chambers of the Congress AND the Presidency, permanently. If there is a Democratic President, any proposal for making the tax cut permanent would be vetoed.

However, none of that proposed legislation actually does anything that benefits the majority of Americans.

Killing the filibuster for Democratic policies means:

Creating a living wage

Raising taxes on wealthy corporations and the wealthiest Americans to make more equitable the distribution of resources to the average American

Affordable healthcare for all Americans

Actual Immigration reform with an emphasis on human rights, a sensible path to citizenship, and an effort to fix the problems internationally that drive illegal immigration.

Free and fair elections

The teaching of ACTUAL American History and not mythology so that people can recognize and actually work to improve on the injustices of yesteryear which continue to today

Educational opportunities as a RIGHT for ALL Americans who want them, whether that means University, certification courses, trade school, etc... without putting people in to massive debt.

Republicans threaten because that is all they have. Basically, they are saying, "If you kill the filibuster to help people, then we can use that same tactic to fuck shit up". Democrats should not fall for the threat. If Democratic policies actually take effect it would likely mean that Republicans would be reduced to a regional party. That is probably overly optimistic but the reality is that Republicans do not have any real policies that help the majority of people, whereas the Democratic Party does. Republicans stopped fighting Democrats on policy decades ago. Killing the filibuster would actually make it a policy debate once again.
