The absence of justice can be rather depressing.
The ruling by the SC yesterday gave some hope that there may still be some justice for these criminals that took over our government.
It is far from over but, at last, we feel we are going in the right direction. That is a good feeling.
Let us hope that our country can recover from this traumatic experience and turn our attention to the rest of government that needs cleaning up, for example, voting rights, filibuster reform, and removing dark money from our political system.
Then we can celebrate.

(12 posts)While quite an awful aftertaste today, the filibuster is important. Especially so in the off chance that we get knocked on the ropes again, however unlikely that may be. Let's not put the cart before the horse, shall we?

(111,110 posts)A Senator should not be able to sit in his office and send a message that he is going to "filibuster" and that ends the debate. He should have to stand on the floor and defend his position, at the very least.

(7,683 posts)for a mail-in ballot. It was a pain in the ass. I'm 71 and we've never had any problems when it comes to voting in my lifetime. But the GOP has made a big thing out of claiming voter fraud - which doesn't exist as far as anyone can tell. It is pretty obviously voter suppression.
The reason I'm pessimistic is I don't see any of my neighbors paying much attention to anything other than Jesus and Trump, in fact like the Beetles once joked, I think Trump might be more popular than Jesus in rural Texas. They view him as the second coming....
Optimistic.....nope.
You're much stronger than I am. I could never live in a place like Texas

(15,224 posts)I've not done the mail in ballot as I'm not quite old enough yet, but I agree with all that you said here. The GOP has destroyed any chance of real democracy existing in Texas. In my opinion, Texas has been the test case, and the fact that the GOP is succeeding down here is emboldening them to try it elsewhere.
I am, actually, a believer. But what you say about Jesus and Trump is SO true. I'm not that kind of believer. And I see a very stark and distinct difference between my set of beliefs and those who call themselves "evangelicals" and worship at the alter of Hagee, et al.
I have very little room for any optimism when I think of all that has been lost. Would I like to see Trump in jail? Hell yes. But I will believe it when I see it, and save my elation for that time as I don't want to risk disappointment yet again as has been the case so many times before.
Peace and hugs.
