As stated earlier, I know he turned into a looney and a Trumpster later in life but I celebrate his early career when his musical theatrical talents were matched by no one.
TMZ reports that Meat Loaf died from Covid
According to US news website TMZ the star had fallen 'seriously ill' with Covid.
TMZ reports, "Sources with knowledge tell TMZ ... he was supposed to attend a business dinner earlier this week for a show he's working on -- "I'd Do Anything for Love" -- but the dinner was canceled because he became seriously ill with COVID."
According to TMZ he was "outspoken about COVID, railing with folks in Australia recently about vaccine mandates."
It is not known whether Meat Loaf was vaccinated.

(22,048 posts)Meat Loaf had tremendous success selling 100 million records worldwide. Thats impressive.
Still, there are plenty of musicians and singers who are better at their crafts.
Matched by no one indeed.

(27,817 posts)... involving bogus "Bat Out of Hell" sales. I was a writer for a music biz magazine at the time - it was pretty ugly.
I'm not saying that ML didn't legitimately sell millions of albums, but there were some rather huge discrepancies when the numbers were crunched on that particular LP.

(22,048 posts)In pre-digital times, that could mean Meat Loaf earned tens of millions of dollars in royalties. Thats a lot of money and Im not surprised to read that the sales figures were sketchy.
Of course, the music business has never fudged earnings nor royalties, (snark).

(27,817 posts)CBS Canada was claiming to have sold millions of albums, which I wrote about. I was then contacted by the organization that oversees the disbursement of publishing royalties - who wanted to know why the songwriters had not been paid what they were entitled to based on that number of sales.
They were very confrontational - wanted to know what the source of my article was. So I referred them back to CBS. By then, all "hell" was breaking loose - and investigations were underway.
I should point out that CBS Canada as a label had nothing to do with the wonky numbers - one of their top execs had acted on his own, and had literally scammed his entire branch into believing that the sales were legit.
Yeah, that was a little over the top in my opinion.

(61,703 posts)I think you're mixing up two things here. Disagreeing that Meat Loaf's artistic talent wasn't better than that of any other artist isn't the same as hating him.
Personally, I think Meat Loaf's songs were fun and catchy. I enjoyed his over the top performance style when I heard it on the radio or at a party, but I never bought any of his records and can't imagine sitting down to listen to an entire album at once. There are literally hundreds of artists whose music I prefer. That's not "hating" on Meat Loaf. I honor your opinion and choice. We just disagree.
It's too bad he became a Trumper and chose to be against the Covid vaccine. Sounds like he might have died of Covid. That's unfortunate. It's unfortunate that he may have influenced others against the vaccine. My saying that isn't "hate" either.

(102,357 posts)and then I addressed the wider issue of the comments on the thread. As one does. I then clarified for the poster directly as to who I was discussing in terms of the other issues. Not looking for an argument. I have to deal with these people 7 days a week and in fact, just got off a shift where I was repeatedly cussed out trying to treat COVID patients and am heading to bed. (and no, I didn't respond back negatively at all. If I can do so--put aside my anger and resentment-- so too can others).
Have a nice evening.

(19,114 posts)Totally preventable death, but he couldn't see past his own BS to see the truth and now he's dead for his lunacy.
The problem with the anti vaxxers is they're so wrapped up in themselves that they're incapable of learning through the mistakes of others. I used to think that, "well at least others will learn from this death", but they don't learn, they are not capable of learning until it happens to them. So instead of some Meatloaf fans saying to themselves, "oh man, I better get vaccinated", they'll just make excuses of it wasn't Covid really and he had comorbidities obviously. Very few if any people will get vaxxed because of this death, because the people resisting a safe and effective vaccine are too self centered.

(61,703 posts)It's not really surprising, on reflection. Irrational choices beget more irrational choices. It's rare for people to change very much. Most of us continue about the same as we are.
AngryOldDem
(14,061 posts)Yes, youd think theyd learn by example. But, they see people like Meat Loaf as those who stood their ground against the government, Dems, Biden, the libs, health experts, and science, and they put that tool Dr. Fauci in his place, to boot. NOBODY is telling them what to do, dammit.
Now theyre pushing up daisies, or taking up space in hospitals, just one more lost statistic.
Good job, covidiots.
(Oh, one more thing
some of these people lawmakers scream bodily autonomy and not being told what to do with ones body. Then these same people turn around and dictate womens health issues. They either cant see or wont see the disconnect and hypocrisy.)

Theyd rather go to the grave by trying to make some nonsense point.
(Disclaimer, before I get jumped on for grave dancing. I do recognize the difference between outright refusal to get a shot, and not being able to get one for a valid reason, or get the shots and get sick anyway. My beef is with those who take pride in their ignorance.)

(50,562 posts)The Samuel L Jackson movie Formula 51 cast him as the main villain, and he was good in that. (Well, as good as anyone needs to be in an early Sam Jackson B flick.)
However, this death isnt a shock. We all knew he was a right winger. Being antivax just goes with the territory.
