Sarah Palin set to battle New York Times at defamation trial

NEW YORK, Jan 23 (Reuters) - Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee, has spent 4-1/2 years battling the New York Times over an editorial she said falsely linked her to a deadly Arizona mass shooting that left a U.S. congresswoman seriously wounded.

On Monday, Palin is poised to try to begin convincing jurors in a lawsuit in Manhattan federal court that the newspaper and its former editorial page editor James Bennet defamed her.

-snip-

Palin bears the high burden of showing by clear and convincing evidence that there was "actual malice" involved in the newspaper's editorial writing process.

"This is a lawsuit over an editorial, essentially an opinion. This is a potentially dangerous area," said Roy Gutterman, a Syracuse University law and communications professor. "If we give public officials a green light to litigate on editorials they disagree with, where's the end?"

She thinks she's pursuing a claim for definition of character (not defamation, because how could that happen).

Your fun pack contains many collectible items!

First, the pack contains a video, showing "AK-47 Jesus" with a ten-hour repeating voice-over of your favorite Sarah quotes!

Second, the pack contains a selection of various calibre live bullets, all professionally engraved with "Sarah" and a heart!

The pack also contains two printed images of Sarah Palin: one has a superimposed bulls-eye symbol centered between the eyes; the other a superimposed cross-hairs symbol centered mid-forehead!

But wait! there's more! The pack also contains the following disclaimer written by our lawyers: We do not in any way advocate threats or violence! This is intended only for the amusement of peaceful law-abiding citizens! We are not responsible for any actions of insane or unstable people. So if you cannot take a joke, please go fuck yourself with a rusty bayonet!

And if you act now, we will throw in a list of our favorite defense counsel and frivolous litigators, absolutely free!

Palin served 1/2 term, not 1/2 year. This is from Wikipedia:

(Palin) "served as the 9th governor of Alaska from 2006 until her resignation in 2009."

Regardless, she's a quitter and a half wit.

She's also an idiot, like Trump.

whether she realized it or not. (On some level, she likely did.) If there's any malice to be proven, she might want to go back and look at the crosshairs pasted over the map she distributed before the shooting occurred, then look in a mirror. That type of imagery was completely inappropriate.

Is the target map that Sarah Palin published, showing Gabrielle Giffords' Congressional District under the cross hairs of a gun, relevant to press coverage of the shootings today [January 8, 2011] in Arizona? [snip]

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords certainly thought Sarah Palin's map was relevant to the threat of violence. This is what she told MSNBC on March 25, 2010:

"...for example, we're on Sarah Palin's targeted list, but the thing is that the way that she has it depicted has the crosshairs of a gun sight over our district, and when people do that, they've gotta realize there are consequences to that action."

This lawsuit just serves to remind everyone all over again what a completely unsuitable candidate Palin was.
