Florida Congresswoman Gets Sworn In to Seat After Winning Special Election By a Landslide, But Repub

Republican Opponent Still Won’t Concede

U.S. Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick was sworn in as the first Black woman to represent the predominantly Democratic 20th District in Florida on Tuesday, but her Republican opponent she defeated by a landslide the week before, still has not conceded the race.

Cherfilus-McCormick won the special election for the 20th District on Jan. 11, securing 78.7 percent of the vote over Jason Mariner’s 19.6 percent. However, Mariner won’t concede the election and has filed a lawsuit alleging ballot issues.

Mariner pointed to media bias in election coverage the day after his defeat.

“People are supposed to have a fair shake at choosing governance,” Mariner told reporters in a video posted on his campaign Facebook page. “That didn’t get that in this race because the media was so slanted and biased.”

In an epic beating? That's stupid!
Besides, he whines about the "media coverage", which means the media MADE HIM LOSE!
So, that whiny bit is an admission of defeat.

And neutralize this refusing to give a concession speech bullshit that only sore losers everywhere appreciate.

The media could point out that "Although ______ has refused to concede this race, the Democratic candidate, _________________, has already given her Victory Speech".

THAT is a different story. The media slanted things! The counting was rigged! The polling was rigged! Someone brought someone a cup of water! Mom always liked my opponent best! The tooth fairy put a quarter under the wrong pillow!

If you use calculators programmed in Republicanese, A Republican candidate being being down by 59% means the Republican won in a "surprise victory upset."

Once the election is certified it's over. The loser can refuse to concede, stamp their feet & hold their breath, or, since this is Florida, cover themselves in BBQ sauce & go swimming in a lake full of hungry alligators.

Obviously, I would prefer to see him choose the third option.

to win 78.7% of the vote in heavily Dem district. Dude should demand a recount and pay for it.

What does media coverage AFTER the election have to do with anything?

Yeah, technically it makes no difference whether an opponent officially concedes or not.

If he's contesting the election with the state or in the courts, that would matter until he ran out of appeals. But that doesn't seem to be the case here, where the guy's just being a jerk.
