There needs to be a final admission that it is and has always been a pyramid scheme. The sooner we as a society get to that point, the better the prognosis for this planet. There are no incremental solutions to the looming catastrophic consequences of centuries of abuse and neglect of this planet and it's inhabitants. Not just climate change related, but wealth inequality as well.

I don't know what it will look like, but it needs to happen now.

Like any spoiled child, the act of actually removing that band-aid can cause some pain, and we don't suffer any pain because it hurts and even though leaving the thing on will actually make the wound worse, we still would prefer to keep the band-aid on because it looks better. In other words, we all know the damage being done. We just won't rip it off because it will require some sacrifice (a bit of pain) and effort (attention to aid in healing) to actually make it heal properly. We prefer to dream...
