General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsA coworker went to Texas for her husband's job interview -- "No masks anywhere!" she gushed.
Shopping malls open. Restaurants packed. "It's like 2019 there!"
Her husband's been in bed for five full days now, headaches, bodyaches, nausea, fatigue. They can't find a rapid test at the CVS.
He's double-vaxxed, no booster, his company requires it. But she's not. Mentioned Facebook as the reason. No symptoms yet --
But the two little girls, 2 and 4, went right back to their private Christian daycare when they returned.
Flying back to California she felt the heaviness of the oppressive mask mandate return --
They're taking the job. Everything's cheaper in Texas, she says.
Like life, apparently.

(7,447 posts)I see plenty of masks in San Antonio although certainly not as many as there should be.

(1,990 posts)I felt the burden of Mask-holes and Covidiots when I returned. On a cool note, we visited the San Diego Zoo and Universal Studios. Plus my family had breakfast with an old friend and his girlfriend Sandra Oh. Coming back to Texas kind of sucked.

(21,147 posts)Austin Texas. Hes moving back to Silicon Valley and hired us for the unpack. This is the second family I packed up to move to Texas and who then moved back to the SF Bay Area a year later.
Let her find out the hard way I say. On the surface it looks good but when you experience it full time 24/7 reality sets in.

(17,652 posts)And only one had the resources to be able to move back. When she was leaving she told me about how great it was to have such a big house for so cheap. She didnt tell me why she moved back home to Hawaii but she was really happy to be home.
The other one is still stuck there and she is not happy. To understate.

(1,900 posts)In my area, most people are wearing masks - but I know that's boring for
those that want to bash Texas. Not that Texas doesn't often deserve it.

(10,749 posts)This one is a stumper.
I wear my mask on all stores, gas station convenience store. Theres nothing oppressive about it. Mask on. Twenty minutes later mask off. How is that oppressive? Sounds like death is a possibility for the husband. But, sure, wearing a mask is oppressive. She might become Ill and her kids will suffer. But, sure, you owned the line. Im sure the little ones will understand your martyrdom when theyre older. If they live that long.

(2,962 posts)No big deal.
If Trump had told them to wear a mask they would have.
He could have sold a lot of them with his name on them.

(792 posts)Parts of San Antonio and Houston too. Masking is taken very seriously in many businesses and at least strongly encouraged, if not physically enforced.
