(9,952 posts)They got it done so I should not have any more payments. I didn't know son's acct info so I could not cancel that way. I was already going to cancel cause been paying for years and son told me last week he does not use anymore. I got to do it yesterday supporting Young which was kinda fun.

Not to mention this only brings Spotify more bad press...not good for business. Sites like Spotify number in the thousands

(5,169 posts)but I bet the blowback from Neil Young leaving will hurt more than they want to admit, is this is the result.
I don't have a subscription, won't have one in the future, and won't do anything with an automated payment.
ColinC
(8,292 posts)Makes that no longer a possibility.
gratuitous
(82,849 posts)Joe "Stinkbutt" Rogan's podcasts may bring in more money than downloads of Neil Young's music, but Young isn't the only Spotify contributor who objects to being on the same platform as Rogan. Spotify may find themselves retaining Rogan's listeners, but they'll lose far more listeners to other contributors.
I'm guessing some low-level flunky who made his first big-boy business decision is filling his shorts about now as Spotify sheds revenue.

(1,305 posts)When ever tech issues negatively affect user groups it is most often a reflection of senior managements view of user value. In this case some senior tech guy told his minions not to bother making the system for allowing users to cancel subscriptions robust. After all , if they want to quit us, fuck em.

(4,190 posts)the money comes out right away, but if you come back an hour later and return it takes days. Or getting off a mailing list takes a few days but signing up is instant.

Recurring political donations when you thought it was a one-time gift.
Get the first one free and then you're on the hook.
Ultra easy to sign on
Almost impossible to quit.
Many folks have had to cancel the card (or report it lost as mentioned earlier)
to get out from under the trap.

(50,949 posts)with people cancelling. That's kind of awesome!
The thread also has suggestions on how to take screenshots to fight anything they bill you for after you request a cancellation.
But floods of people cancelling is great news!

(9,073 posts)Just checked. Would have no problem if I wanted to.
The breathless Twitter of the drama of it all, though. A whole 1,000 retweets (big news!) with responses saying people are having no problems.
Stuff gets glitchy sometimes.
Now watch the panicked responses . . . "Call the bank, ma!"
This is why Twitter isn't news. It's just for riling people up. Accomplished, I suppose.

(12,388 posts)nostalgic for some of his old tunes, so I trotted over to Apple and ordered the Harvest collection. So nice. Hmm, I hear that a lot of nostalgia was going around today at Apple.

(792 posts)The idea is to turn off the "sell" button--or in this case, the "cancel" button--for a few days in the hopes that we'll forget.
Keep in mind, there's no glitch when it comes to signing up. So...yeah.

(589 posts)but I've tried to find a way to selectively remove my albums over the past couple days via CDBaby and have not found one.
Spotify has other issues aside from it's support of Rogan; the payout for artists is paltry. We used to complain about how the traditional record company model screwed over the artist royalty-wise, and that most of the money was funneled to the suits...but despite the early promise that the internet might level the playing field with a better model, Spotify is even worse.
Given various "let 'em eat cake" type of missives directed to artists from the guy who has made billions off of people with actual talent, the embrace of people like Rogan is unsurprising, to say the least. I hope they go out of business and that fucker ends up eating out of dumpsters. Won't happen...but I can dream.

(8,776 posts)after a recent automated Windows update and now loads as part of startup.
I am old, ill, and technically challenged so Spotify loads each time reboot and I click it away and forget about Spotify until the next time reboot.

(146,308 posts)There are many inaccurate tweets on Twitter. Not every tweet needs to be posted here.
Read the rest of the thread. Spotify is NOT keeping people from canceling subscriptions.

(5,390 posts)There is a huge difference between Spotify won't let me cancel and the fact that their servers are overloaded but people are looking to be outraged. I believe the proper term is lemmings.

(146,308 posts)Anyone can post whatever comes into their heads on Twitter, and they do it on a daily basis. When I see something on Twitter, the first thing I do is look to see if I know anything about the person who tweeted. If not, I go to see if I can find anyone else who is saying the same thing. If so, I check their credentials as purveyors of news.
It's one thing when someone is tweeting what they personally saw out of their window. That might well be breaking news of some kind.
But, someone saying no more than that some website is no longer letting people cancel subscriptions is almost certainly not true. In the first place, a business like Spotify would simply not do such a thing. That would be bad for its business, so I assume that someone misunderstood something they encountered, as happened in this particular case.
Being skeptical of random tweets by random people is good common sense. Check first for corroboration from more reliable sources. Then post here on DU. Otherwise, you're likely to face a certain amount of ridicule here on DU, because others will most certainly check.

(424 posts)No issue at all. Now it doesnt cancel until the end of my billing cycle. Guessing that was in the T&Cs when I signed up.
All done online, no issues at all. You can even leave a little note why.
In my case I left the reason why and added a personal note to the person reading, job market is good, if you work for a company giving a million to Rogan, while losing loyal customers, you may want to start looking for new employment.
