No link for BEGALA, heard him months ago on cable saying that MANCHIN is a real Dem.

.... " ... But Ill just keep saying it: If we dont have Sen. Manchin, were going to have somebody really, really, really extreme in his seat.
"Look, Im a liberal Democrat. Always have been. But some of these people bitching about Manchin cant see political reality straight. Six percent of adults in this country identify as progressive. Only 11 or 12 percent of Democrats identify as progressive. So lets just meet in the middle and say something like 7 or 8 percent of the country agrees with the progressive left. This aint a goddamn debate anymore. Someone like Manchin is closer to the mainstream than a lot of these people think, and pretending like he isnt wont help the cause."

(30,613 posts)Candidates have to support the positions of the voters they are courting. Manchin does not do that, if you look at the polls, and Carville is mistaken to endorse Manchin's actions.
UTUSN
(70,695 posts)elected him, so in some form he is perceived by them as supporting their positions. CARVILLE/BEGALA do not say they "endorse MANCIN's actions." CARVILLE, very specifically here labels himself as a Liberal, which is unquestioned, now or before, and would by definition choose other actions than MANCHIN's. He is speaking generally about MANCHIN as somehow (beats me) fitting in within the Dem umbrella.
While I consider MANCHIN to be a pain in various of my body parts, I have to live with his "D" label as long as he's applying it to himself.

(70,695 posts)I have zero specific knowledge of the W. VA ins and outs. If he were running today, I suspect (generally) that he would be re-elected with the "D" on him. And whatever else the latest status of his polling, after he was elected they elected the wingnut a-hole governor, no?
Really, I'm not qualified to engage in this kind of discussion in the weeds. This is just another example of my posting something never dreaming it would turn into a thing.

(43,365 posts)giant left-punching hippy kickabout. What a whingey bayou snowflake he has become.
He always was a gobby bloke, but has become increasing insufferable in his years of decline, in his drifting into the gloaming of hackneyed irrelevance.
Manchin is not blocking proggy stuff only, he is blocking stuff that ALL the rest of the party (except for his obstructionist teammate, Curtsy) support, including even his fellow conservadems, like the atm embattled Cuellar.

(7,263 posts)Sad man.
He hates it's not all about him anymore. And his policy views are straight out of the 1990's.
I like James - he is funny - but never been a big fan of his strategies. He got lucky with President Clinton thanks to Ross Perot. Not that I am complaining.
What a shock that corporate media keeps these two going.

In other words, a plurality of Democratic voters identify as liberal.
